Stayed on the outskirts once on the way down to Italy. Very expensive place (as is Switzerland in genera) and pleasant enough but nowt special. We stayed in a house (B&B) owned by a retired diplomat and his wife. They said they did not eat out much as it was very expensive !! Forgot they use Swiss Francs and only had Euros. Got ripped off with the exchange rate in the Bar restaurant in the village and we had two pizzas (bang average) 1 water and I had beer Came to over 70 euros (and that was 3 years ago). Also place was full of cigarette smoke as it was not banned in public places (even restaurants) and loads of people were smoking.
How long ago was that? I'm only staying overnight for the football, but I like to throw in a bit of sightseeing too, if it's worth it.
We passed through it on our way to Italy by coach. Like TEK says from what I can remember it was pretty expensive. When we were there it was undergoing extensive improvements so there wasn't a lot to do. Our guide recommended seeing the Basel Minster, or suggested a look around the Museum of Music. There's also a collection of expensive vintage cars you can see. Hope you enjoy your visit.
Went with work about 18 months ago. Ridiculously expensive (think Monaco if you've been). Pleasant but not amazing. Like my sex life in the 90s a quick in and out with no sleepovers is recommended
Been twice in recent years watching England but stayed over the border in wiel am Rhein. Beer much cheaper a bus direct into Basel and you can easily do a 3 country pub crawl. It was expensive in Basel about 7-9 euros a beer about 3-4 across border.
Sounds like Stockholm prices then! I've been wanting to visit FC Basel for ages, so I've finally decided to make it happen.
Dearest place I've ever been was Venice. I'd been warned not to eat or drink in the cafes and bars in the area where the ferry / boat drops you after you leave the mainland. We were waiting for our boat to pick us back up to rejoin our coach . I'd had a great lunch in a bar in one of the quieter areas and a few pots of Peroni so I needed the bog. My wife decided to sit at a table at one of the waterfront bars and whilst I was away ordered two glasses of orange squash. The bill came to around €15 which was very expensive for a couple of glasses of dilute orange squash.
