Stars of tonight - Mallan, McCarthy, Isgrove, Moncur, Brown and Yids. All superb. Mallan isn't a winger but was still excellent at what he did out on the right. Very good technically. Id be happy to try a 4-5-1 with him in the number 10. McCarthy very quick and powerful looked to get forward at every opportunity. Exciting prospect. Isgrove looked the same player he was in the playoff running. He must have won 5-6 balls high up the field. Looked quicker than ever too. Moncur outstanding in the middle as he was the back end of last season. He's the guaranteed starter in CM. The others still have big question marks whether they'll be ready. Jacob Brown was very impressive. He doesn't play like a young raw talent. Looks to turn and drive forward and if he can't he holds it up nicely. Very strong lad and for me looks ready. Yids looked the international player he is as always. The new lad looked raw upfront as Fletcher did when he first arrived. I wouldn't say he's lightening quick but I'm sure he'll learn how to impose himself on the game. Again as Fletcher did. Pinnock looked okay but not the strongest. Don't expect to see him win every header like we had with Robbo, as things stand for me its Angus and Jackson. Looking forward to seeing Lindsey. Mowatt looked fitter and sharper but im not convinced him and Moncur will be a strong player enough Championship pairing. Sessi I'm sorry to say could be an accident waiting to happen in the Championship. He gets the cheers from the crowd for getting a few tackles in but I'm not convinced just yet. Fryers was quiet tonight. Didn't do anything wrong but didn't impress like McCarthy. Payne looked okay but still has flashes of lower league in him. He's always struggling with injuries with doesn't help. Overall a very enjoyable game and a lot of positives. Looking forward to Saturday to see how performances vary. Mmmmm...........there were a few performances I saw different to you. Pinnock looked pretty good to me. Much better than Jackson Sessi was excellent - I must admit he quite surprised me Brown and the new lad (Ugbo?) were on a par - neither looked championship standard. Payne and Bradshaw flattered to deceive - we need summat more lively upfront. Mallan - not so sure about him. Certainly not out wide, despite the great finish. Yids was a class above them all. The rest showed promise.
Only a friendly and still bedding in. It's encouraging that nobody's said they are worried with what they've seen. We might still have more to come in. Be interesting to see how they perform against better opposition on Saturday.
Sessi is an enigma. Bits of sheer genius. Bits of sheer *****. Bits of running around like a mental jack russell.
Agree with a lot of your points apart from the odd one, I for one was pretty impressed with Mallan out wide, I thought he had McCarthy linked up really well out wide and he took his goal really well and can certainly put in a good cross. Defo think that could be a good option going forward as we are short on wingers but have plenty of good midfield options. Do not think Brown is ready just yet, but does look to have bulked up since I last saw him, a league 1/2 loan could really be a good benefit to him this season once we bring a few more in. But other than that I agree with what you said, was a pretty good game on the whole
I thought Brendan was ace at times in that 'headless chicken' style. So if Sessi D' gets compared similarly then that has to be a compliment. Im delighted to hear Isgrove has lost none of the enthusiasm that he had back in the wembley final. And most of the squad are sounding between 'decent and impressive' at the moment.
