Wages, transfer fees, agents fees and paying them off. I wonder how much we have spent on K Jackson, Tuton and Lee? Just out of interest. Obviously this will be perceived as a negative post but so be it.
Go through all the teams and they'll have much worse scenarios than us that haven't worked out, clubs in the top half of the Championship have been paying over a million for players for years who haven't done anything. With where ours came from I doubt they cost a lot or were probably on very mediocre money, just part of the game innit. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The flip side of this is that Roberts, Mcdonald, Yiadom and loads of others were also risks but have turned into saleable championship assets which far outweigh the costs we've likely incurred on those players. If we're shopping in the lower leagues surely we have to accept that some won't come off. As long as some do then it's worth it. There's not a single club out there that doesn't make mistakes with transfers. Even those with more money who should be able to stand a better chance of guaranteeing success. All signings have a risk element. There was a post dedicated to such signings yesterday. Any loss on those 3 players is far outweighed by the money we've got for others. You could say we gave a few players away when contracts ran out, but those players helped in our progression from league one to Championship. I doubt there is a club in the league that has a total success rate in signing players. Sent from my SM-G850F using Tapatalk
Ira not a risk it's a calculated gamble You win some toy lose some at the level we were operating at last season we won more than we lost Now that we've upped the game a bit we can't afford to lose as many. Hopefully this year's more expensive crop flourishes to the same extent
The answer is that we don't know because any fees are usually " undisclosed". There's a site I often have a look at called " Transfer Market". If they don't know the fee they print a question mark. For Jackson from Wrexham to us it shows ? and from us to Accrington again ? His market value is shown as being £64k. Tuton left Barrow for Halifax on a free. For them to us it shows ? . His sell on value is shown as being £85k. It reckons Lee came from West Ham on a free and we've let him go to Luton on a free as well. As someone has already commented the Lee deal was done probably to initially help Moncur settle in. Clubs have done similar in the past. When our former full back Lee Crooks first joined Manchester City he was only 16 years old and didn't want to relocate at first. Another local player I know called called Kris who now fits blinds for a living, was given a contract to play for City's reserves and had to drive Crooks to and from Manchester every day. Kris fitted some blinds for me recently and was telling me that Lee is now Leading Aircraftman Crooks a Gunner in the RAF , and was deployed to the front line in Afghanistan in 2012.
You make me laugh Conan you question us signing non league players when players like robo and angus have come off and we paid around 100k for Angus and robo was free. But then you wanted to put our money into signing donny rovers top scorer who had 1 good season in league 2 that would have been a far greater gamble.
I don't recall wanting to sign Marquis. The further you get up the pitch the harder it gets. Looking at it dispassionately, do you honestly believe that a striker with a one in nine record in the Conference cut realistically cut it in League Two, never mind the Championship?
Conan, I honestly don't know what you want. Presumably an unlimited pot of money or a magic wand? Or maybe both?
