Expected him to leave this summer but looks as though he's gonna stay second choice, unless Jack Walton can move him. How did he play last night? Has he sorted his handling out and his mad rushes towards the half way line?
Seen Nick play the two full games against Coventry and Rochdale and to be fair to him he has looked a calm composed keeper in both games. He made the simple saves look simple and when called upon made the difficult saves as well. One particular full length save against Coventry being outstanding. In both games his handling has been faultless, particularly taking several catches with ease. Compare this with Rochdales keeper Josh Lillis, a player with over 200 appearances, who flapped at most crosses that came at him, and should have been punished by conceding on possibly 2 occasions. The only minor thing you could pick him up on was his distribution, he appeared to either want to rush a kicked clearance or keep hold of the ball too long. He needs to get the happy medium! Having said all this, unfortunately, he won't be starting the season in goal as we have Adam Davis, who I rate as a top keeper. The only way he will play is if Adam gets injured or has a massive dip in form. If Nick is willing to play second fiddle to Adam I am more than happy with that, as he is an able deputy, but I am sure if he wanted he could be a starting keeper elsewhere in the lower leagues, maybe Rochdale!!
I take it he must have played reasonably well otherwise there would have been a thread a mile long slagging him off.
People seem to forget that Townsend was playing when the whole team were *****. He's probably not half as bad as he looked and I imagine he's developed a lot since then.
Hecky has mentioned he deserves 1st team football so most likely will be loaning him out soon. Must mean Walton will be promoted to No.2
You would have thought so. We've always done **** in the League Cup and we have some very winnable games in August so need to concentrate on them.
