That is not what I am saying at all, but you read it any way you like. Success for the club from my point of view is staying solvent and giving us occasional days in the sunshine. I won't always like what is going on but I will give those running things a bit of slack, knowing that there are good times coming. Maybe next week, maybe next year. It doesn't matter which.

If you need constant success there are a couple of teams just over the Pennines that might interest you.

    6. Mick McCarthy
    7. Alan Little (joined Doncaster Rovers)
    8. Allan Clarke (retired)

    Good memory Kev.

I'm not sure what League most of those clubs were in for the 1979-80 season, but I'm guessing most of them were fourth division so the players were considered surplus to requirements.

The thing I remember about Saunders leaving was that he was told he had a free transfer before the vital Grimsby match. Luckily he played to his usual high standards and we won and got promoted. Good as that team was though it was never going to cut it in the Third Division

Bang on, old mate. But that's different from saying it's never happened.
This may come as a shock to you, but I'm just as concerned at the loss of so many players in such a short space of time. Going back to that promotion team, the fans were still giving their backing to the club, as it was fairly obvious that the new players coming in were of a better quality than those they were replacing. This time round we appear to be bringing in potential.

I agree, mate. However, there were plenty of fans believing our promotion team could walk the Third Division. Their argument was that the Third Division was little better than the Fourth Division (despite us not playing at that level since 1972)!:D

Yes,it was so sad,it was a great team to watch and they didn't get to fulfil their potential. We'd had a good couple of seasons and it seemed to Peter out. Maybe that's why I drew parallels with the situation now; but things go in cycles and people might be down now but it will improve.

Excellent video thanks for posting this. Is there any ex players that have an Ambassador type role at Oakwell? I don't sit in the executive boxes.

I don't agree with that. We've always had saleable assets. We've always had good players. And we've always sold players. But not all of them all at once. I think what's happened in the last 12 months is obscene.

So you'd lock them in the dressing room then, with a gun at their heads saying "Sign or else" - would that work do you think?

Of course not - footballers are becoming ever more motivated by making their fortunes from the game, because many of them can do just that with a couple of big moves. There is nothing "obscene" about selling your assets when you don't have a choice. The obscenity is the amount of money slushing about amongst the big clubs.

Utterly wonderful. Thanks for posting. Imagine him and Redders as our two centre midfielders. Mebbe then we could be a five a side team and still challenge for the land of milk and honey!

Yes, Glavin and Redfearn marauding at will with Banger just behind them waiting for blocked shots running to the edge of the area.

".....it's deep into injury time now and Glavin exchanges passes with Redfearn in a delightful move, carving their way through the Wednesday defence. Glavin has a clear sight of goal and pulls the trigger only to see the keeper make a fine stop, parrying the ball straight back out. The Owls think the danger has been averted but then Banks gets to the ball first. He lets fly and the Ponty End erupts as the ball flies into the top corner to win the match for Barnsley".

    Fantasy Football League :)

Quite recently I believe and a few have mentioned that he is still looking very fit. It's a shame that a place was never found for him on the coaching staff when he stopped playing. He went to Lisbon after us, playing for Belenses. I seem to remember him getting a coaching job at Oakwell briefly but I can't remember the background to that, and why he left again.

It was Allan Clarke's last match as a player at Elm Park. He realised he couldn't do both jobs any more.

This. Is pretty daft to say that we have always sold our entire team off every season and that there has been absolutely no change. It's just clearly not true. We have held a fire sale over the last year. Pretty appaling if we are to be honest and not we can't even play the greedy footballer card. Roberts for example was pushed out.

He was Emley (?) manager then persuaded to come to bfc .
Wasn't he used as a figurehead by the Clown Mayor around the laughable american/Icelandic (?) takeovers .
I think he was eventually crapped on and left .

Who mentioned constant success? What I mentioned is a dream beyond solvency. A dream of moving to the next level. I suppose it depends what good times are seen as.

But thanks for telling me not to bother anymore. You're becoming as patronising as Red Rain.
