    Cheers Scoff. I've just googled it. One theory is it's derived from the Spanish word Chica ( Chick)
    which has been adapted as " bird" in slang.

    Similar, but we weren't on holiday, just a normal lie in on sunday morning. Remember hearing my step son who was 9 at the time going downstairs early to watch some telly and coming back up into our bedroom. Totally nonchalent, he said, almost with a whistle, going back to bed, there's nowt on telly, its just news on every channel. "Why, whats happened" we said. "Oh, princess Diana's dead I think".

    Oh!

    Was a bit surreal.

    One of the weirder threads I've read on here. A bunch of creepy old men stroking their egos making it about them and "some bird". Not sure anyone's impressed

    Well, I wasn't 'with some bird'. I was about 12, and very much annoyed that even in the Netherlands all the kids programming I used to watch was cancelled because they had to report it.
