This young lad seems to be settling in okay. Going forward, he's a big threat and appears to be building up a decent partnership down the right with Adam Hammill. Defensively, there have been occasions when he's allowed his opposite number the time and space to deliver a cross. I've no doubt this can be ratified, especially with the coaching abilities & experience of Hecky, Clapham and Hassell. However, looking on from the Ponty End, Jason seems to be building up an excellent rapport with all the fans in the East Stand Lower. This will definitely help him in the months to come on the days when things aren't going quite as well as yesterday. A big thumbs up to all the Reds fans in that stand.
Aye he's a talent and since the day he was signed he has shown a real desire to be at Oakwell. You're right re his partnership with Hammill, and Hedges too when he plays. Looks good down that wing. Feel pleased for him getting real games rather than rotting in the U23 limbo of Southampton.
I've got to agree. I love an attacking full back, and how he links up so well with Hammill is fantastic.
Its amazing that, when we win all these players are "looking good", or "settling in nicely" or have "great potential" yet when we lose it always "league 1 at best" or "too naïve at this level" or worse. Is there any chance that the more reasonable and level headed of posters on here could be a little more rational? rather than going off on one based on the last result? I can forgive the pond life for being stupid, it's not really their fault. And no, this is not having a go at Lil, who is the most intelligent of contributors.
In the first few games the full backs seem to be instructed to defend narrow and join up with the centre backs meaning theres been little or no attempt to stop the opposition winger crossing the ball. Sheffield united exploited this in the 1st half last week and caught us out at will. Yesterday was different, apart from the first 15 mins our defence was pretty good. Both full backs marking there men and marking up as they should
Steady. I was with you all the way, mate, until that last sentence! But, thank you. It is appreciated.
Heckys "a time for new heroes" quote from last season will prove to be an insightful comment on this new crop. That's my view on the basis of what I've seen so far. We will have many downs to go with the ups but there's one thing for sure, we,ll not see a lack of effort from a heckingbotham team. After 56 years of supporting this wonderful club we continue to enjoy the best of times under the stewardship of this local lad. God I'm proud to be a red. Win lose or draw. Thanks Patrick.
I've enjoyed the home games so far this season, some of our attacking play has been delightful. The defensive side of our game certainly requires work, but I see no reason why Hecky and his staff can't get it right and on a more consistent basis. Especially when you taken into account how he's improved the likes of Mawson, Bree, Roberts, MacDonald, Yiadom & George Williams. Patience is the key, not only with a new team, but, in our case, a new squad. This doesn't magically happen over night, so I'm more than happy to cut all the new lads some slack as they step out into their Barnsley career. Yesterday was a thoroughly enjoyable game, with lots of positives to be taken from it. It doesn't mean we've turned the corner yet, or that we won't put in less than impressive performances in the weeks and months to come. But I for one took great heart from our display and have every confidence in Hecky in getting the team to continue their improvements.
obviously 'the Oakwellian' has never ever met you ...... and does not know as I do. In your case 'Baldric' springs readily to mind ....
I'm not allowed to pass comment on how a player, or the team, is performing during a game. My friends who sit with me (including Jay, nezbfc & barnsley66) can confirm that as soon as I open my big gob to offer up praise, you can guarantee something will go wrong and they all then blame me! The latest time it happened was during the preseason friendly with Huddersfield. With a minute or so of the match remaining, I confidently pointed out that both teams appeared to have settled for a draw. Within seconds of me saying that, Huddersfield grabbed the only goal of the game! The BBS allows me to say what I really think of the players, as my 'friends' don't allow it at Oakwell!
Have we got two peop Is there any chance you could phone the BBC and say 'eastenders is brilliant. It looks like it will remain a fixture on the BBC from a long time to come'?
