Just sent a link of the picture to Arthur's son John, he's not seen that before but delighted to see it. Thanks for posting.

I met Arthur in the late 60 early 70s when he worked as a joiner at Goodyears. He was doing a job for us in the Central Workshops at Yorkshire Traction on Upper Sheffield Road. At the time I didn't realize just how good he had been and a few of the old timers said he was a better player than Matthews.

I never saw Arthur play for us, but did see him play at full back for Colchester United at the end of his career. Great player. would have fitted well into the ethos of today's team with his non-stop displays,

Looks like the pair of them in their Blackpool days. Imagine a footballer today playing at the level that Stanley did at the age he did. They'd want a golf buggy to get them onto, and around, the pitch.

Great player was Arthur. Saw him at Belle Vue against Donny when I was a wee nipper.
Pinpoint crosses every time for the head of Tommy Taylor another Reds legend.

Talking of old players, my son his wife and kids had a great day out at the Beamish Museum
in the North East last week. They stopped off for something to eat at a local family pub.

My Grandson was wearing an Arsenal top ( second team to the Reds) and the waiter who was
a local was ribbing him saying how can a lad with a Yorkshire accent support a Southern team.

My son had said to his wife when he first saw him that the waiter who was small in stature and had dark hair looked
familiar. He shared the fact that his Dad once played for a Yorkshire team and then it suddenly
dawned on my son as he pointed towards the lad and said Paul Cross.!!

He was absolutely chuffed that somebody remembered his Dad and was also a Barnsley supporter.
When he left us , Paul signed for Hartlepool and then Darlington and apparently is now a summariser on games
on the local radio in the North East.
