Says Hecky in the Yorkshire Post. Obviously Bradshaw and Ugbo. So who's the other, Mamadou or Brown? I would say Brown, as Mamadou is more of a wide player. So that's Bradshaw, who puts a shift in, but I think he's more of a fox in the box type of player feeding off a target man. And then we have two young lads under 20 years old. In your opinion does that constitute a successful business period during the transfer window ? Because I'm sure it dosent. In fact - I would go as far as to say - that the failure to get more strikers in could prove the difference in staying in this league next season.
We are weak in attack. The result of chasing loan players rather than investing in our own in my opinion. We needed at least 2 quality forwards in. Signing attacking players is the most difficult recruitment job for any team given the premium that comes with them. In General I think we did OK in the window. Not disastrous or fantastic but we didn't quite hit the mark upfront.
Brown's injured and PH said in his interview with Radio Sheffield after signing Thiam that he has been brought in to play as an out and out forward as opposed to a wide player. So in my opinion if PH says we've got three strikers then he's referring to Bradshaw, Ugbo and Thiam as Brown is unavailable for the foreseeable future.
Yep, he's definitely referring to Thiam not Brown. States it in the audio clip just uploaded by radio Sheffield. Not ideal, but at least all three strikers should be getting a fair amount of game time now to prove what they can do.
Why do you keep ignoring the fact that McBurnie isnt a target man? Being tall doesnt make someone a target man. That just isnt how he plays.
I think Hedges is certainly an option as a second striker, not because he's tall mind. I think he offers something different and definitely has a goal in him.
I think he may be able to do a job up there but he would certainly behind Bradshaw, Thiam, Ubgo and Brown in that position for me
Absolutely, just saying although we have 3 strikers as PH says, we also have other alternatives that are readily available. To be honest, I think we'll play 4-3-3/4-5-1 for the majority of the season anyway.
I would be happy with that, think that formation best suits what we have, as we have really good options in midfield
Why do you keep ignoring the fact - that you were wrong about signing McBurnie? The club put all their eggs in one basket in the pursuit of McBurnie. Video clips of McBurnie I have seen show a tall striker that could score with his head and was strong enough to hold the ball up allowing midfielders time to join the attack. He added something different to the strike force - Hecky as said as much. As for some considering Hedges as a holding striker - he might be tall but he's not strong enough against central defenders and would be soon knocked off the ball - as whats happening to Ugbo and Bradshaw.
We're all doomed. Everything's *****. Heckingscrapingthebottomofthebarrelforattackingplayers OUT. Close the place down. Jokewell. To REALLY maximise the impact of my lament, I need to rephrase it in 50 different ways and vomit it over every thread. #Heckingbottomoftheleague #I'vegotabeefaboutBigMc
I shouldn't be that pessimistic if I was you. In other areas of the field the recruitment seems to have been excellent. But clearly the striker department could clearly hold us back. IMO - I think there is a chance that we may see lots of posts on here leading up to January saying things like - 'we created loads of chances but didn't score'. Fingers crossed we don't see this.
Spot on MR. Hecky has said he's going to be used as an attacker. Looks like he can drop his shoulder and go off either foot and he's probably got the strongest shot of anyone else on the books. Really excited to see what he can do once he picks up on the lingo.
In my humble opinion I think that we would see that quote irrespective of whether we had three strikers or thirty three strikers. If we had the calibre of striker on the books that didn't miss chances then we'd find ourselves in the Premier League. Just look at last season's options. We had Winnall, Bradshaw and Armstrong who all scored heavily in L1. They were then complimented by Watkins et al. We still found ourselves missing glorious chances, unfortunately. We're also confined by the system that we play and the players suited to play in that system. There's a reason we don't play 4-4-2 every week and it isn't because PH doesn't trust two strikers, it's because we would get absolutely killed in midfield at the moment so playing two up front would be pointless if we're losing battles and getting ripped to shreds elsewhere. I genuinely think the best system for us giving the quality and skill set of the players at PH's disposal is one that involves a central midfield three in whatever guise PH sees fit. Anyway, it's all about opinions and yours are well received.
Hedges or Barnes could play up top. Would be nice to see Brown get some game time too. Big lad, who surely is a better prospect than Payne, otherwise why let him go?
Stick Gus up front when his suspension is over. He's tall, so obviously he would make a really good target man, and it would avoid messing up the new heroes in defence, Lindsay and Jackson. It would also solve the problem of who to make skipper.
