I only really knew Adam Hammill. Jackson was here last year too, but I didn't see much of him. I know the names of everyone else, I can identify them all, but I have no idea what they're like as footballers.

I thought Adam Hammill was our best player by some distance. As I've thought in the majority of games this season. That's not to say he was perfect, he lost the ball on occasion, over hit some crosses, but he ran himself into the ground and any chances we created were created by him. A couple of very good ones too.

I looked at the rest of the team trying to identify some positives, but I couldn't see anything. Nothing at all. Not one positive contribution from any other player in that second half. We're not going to sell this bunch of players for £millions like we did the last lot, there's nothing there.

When we stick 5 in midfield and we run our arses off we can compete. We did in the first half and could consider ourselves to be very unlucky to be two down at half time. They're obviously very well drilled on the training field.

But when we play an attacking line up, when we put two up front, we are abysmal. Absolutely awful.

Maybe there are a couple of other good players in that team, masked by the mediocrity of the whole, but they're very well hidden at the moment.

Fine margins. Our keeper made a ricket, Jackson dived in unnecessarily. Game over. On another night, we could've been in front at half time. As for ability, Williams, Barnes and Ugbo are better than anything we had last season. Hammill has raised his game. McCarthy seems to be getting better, Lindsay and Potts have shown they can step up. There's a few that are clearly not good enough, Hedges, Moncur & Pearson wouldn't get a game for me, but there's replacements in the squad so I'm much more optimistic than I thought I'd be with the turnover of players.

Let's see where we are by end November. I think we'll be top half.

What Hecky see's in Brad Potts ,I just didn't see sorry.. he leaves him on and takes Moncur off.. not for the first time.. why?
Moncur is far from a all round mid-fielder.. but at least he's a threat

Agree totally on Adam Hammill, rest extremely harsh. I think our squad is half decent, at least good enough to stay up. They've already proved themselves in a number of games this season, so I think they're allowed an off-day.

You say "I have no idea what they're like as footballers" then later say "We're not going to sell this bunch of players for £millions like we did the last lot, there's nothing there".

I just don't see how you can make both of those statements

I bet you that Liam Lindsay will be our club-record sale.

I think Matty Pearson is essentially Josh Scowen, and will become a fans' favourite when he is played in a 'kick the other blokes and distribute the ball simply' midfield role.

We won't keep Potts beyond January 2019, even when we become Moneyball FC.

I see great things from Thiam, too. I think he may create better than he can score, though.

I am not down about last night. Terry alone earns about two-thirds of our entire wage budget, and I felt 3-0 was harsh. We deserved to lose, but these same lads are capable of rousing themselves to butcher Sunderland, and they coped well under pressure at Preston.

There's no way we're going down. The likes of Terry, Conor, Adomah, Snodgrass and Kodija ain't turning up every week in this division. I'm not saying we're amazing, but we have enough about us to hold our own against players who are less stellar than those mentioned: I have seen it.

Considering the providence of the majority of our squad I would say that we'll get a few more diplay's of that nature - compared with the opening half hour v Derby when it really clicked, last night was unrecognisable as a group of players - inconsistency is to be expected. SM's got it right

In recent seasons, after drawing my own conclusions based on 3 or 4 showings, I labelled Marley Watkins as 'the reason we shouldn't sign players from Scotland', Matty James as 'a stone overweight', Hourihane as 'not quite up to it' and Nyatanga as 'a class act'. All and more have made me eat my words and taught me to not form opinions on players too soon. A below par performance or two does not mean a player is useless. Bulk of these lads, if not all, are playing on the biggest stage of their career, where as John Terry, for example, will see stepping down to the Championship as semi retirement.

I wouldn't have said any of them were shocking. It was just one of those games when nothing went right and we gave away 3 poor goals, only one down to an outfield player. We had a few games like that last season - Wolves and Forest spring to mind. We were nowhere near as good as we were against Sunderland and Forest and can get back to that level. Maybe Wembley was on players' minds and we'll be back to how we were a few weeks ago when we're next at home.

As for Davies, he seemed to have got over his lapses of concentration that cost us goals last season but he's doing it again after some good games for us.

Good summary and exactly what I thought of the game. Can't grasp where all the doom and gloom comes from all of a sudden.

We have a squad largely full of average players at this level some will improve some wont. You are right we will have to put a lot of effort into every game and sometimes it will pay off. I thought at the start of the season we would be in a relegation battle. I still think that what has given me hope is there seems to be some poor sides in this league that we may be able tp finish ahead of.

I think when Gardiner & Yiadom are back in we'll look more solid. Would have liked an experienced CB in. I assume McDonald will be back in with Lindsey for the next game. I can't really write off anybody at the moment, I can see talent in all of them. Some will make it, some won't.
Top & bottom of it was we made 2 bad mistakes yesterday & we were never going to get in the game after that. Me & my mates retired to the pub after the third went in, which proved to be a wise decision. Will be ups & downs this season. Bolton are screwed. I think we'll be OK, especially if we can add a bit of experience in January.

I know it's all about opinions, I know Morecambe are in league 2, I know we lost against Ipswich, but: -

Off Days: Bristol, Sheffield United, Aston Villa
On Days: Morecambe, Ipswich, Forest, Sunderland, Preston, Derby

I also know that Forest was a bit lucky, but Ipswich a bit unlucky. I don't think we're pulling any trees up (which reminds me, we've got Gardner to come back in) but we're doing OK. Lots of other players to come back in too.

I expected a season of either "'king brilliant that lads, whoever thinks we're going down need their head looking at" or "king **** that lads whoever thinks we are staying up need their head looking at". It's the Barnsley way
