The Patrick Cryne Flag at Wembley

    I'm in southern Spain so obviously far from the action, so the following is subject to confirmation and further investigation.

    The Patrick Cryne flag was not allowed in the stadium this evening. The girl who gave up her entire evening after work to take it down missed the first 20 minutes of the match. She was frantically arguing with security about it. The fact that it could have been Patrick's last match was lost on them. The chance we had to get our tribute to Mr Cryne on show at our national stadium has been lost.

    I'm still not sure about the exact circumstances, but those of you who were there will confirm the flag was not on view.

    What a real shame. Best wishes Mr Cryne.

    Absolutely shocking, what happened to the permission you and the club had got from spurs/Wembley for it to be on display? Did nobody from the club step in?

    Not sure of details yet and obviously it's late at night so we can't investigate further. As suggested in another thread, Spurs had indicated that they would allow us to honour Mr Cryne, and they knew the flag was on the way. More in the morning when we get the response from all parties concerned.

    That is a real shame. Got to say the Stewards we came across were once again top notch, especially in the face of some pretty obnoxious Barnsley fans who refused to sit down.

    No it wasn't on view! Very gutted about it. I was singing for mr cryne as he deserves. But, 'fired' is it a criminal offence to keep stood up? I stood all the game without any problem what so ever! I must be a lovely person for doing so??? Sung my heart out for the lads which they deserved!!

    There should have been an arranged place to access the ground with a letter of approval.
    Not just turning up with a huge flag.

    It is a problem if you're constantly blocking someone's view, if not then no.

    Real shame about the flag, especially if they had prior confirmation that it could be taken inside.

    We emailed both Tottenham and Wembley Stadium. Neither replied. Barnsley Football Club then spoke with Spurs, who were made aware of the meaning of the flag and gave permission for it to be allowed in. In fact they said they were all for it out of respect for Mr Cryne. It seems this message never got through to the people on the gate.

    No blame attached to them, they were doing their job.

    Not a criminal offence but probably against the rules printed on your ticket.
    As it happens I don't mind folks standing up as long as it's not spoiling it for others. Last night it was spoiling it for a few lads at the back and frankly it was embarrassing. Grown men arguing the toss with each other when actually there was no reason to stand other than to prove a point to the blokes with the other opinion.
    I wish I'd videoed it cos it was like watching kids at nursery.
    And as for standing being anything to do with enhancing the atmosphere, I'm afraid that's just nonsense. Aside from the fact that plenty of us who sit down give the team full vocal backing, silly arguments like last night actually detract from the atmosphere.

    I wondered why it wasn't there, shame on those responsible for not allowing it in

    It can be very selfish - if you are standing all those behind you have to stand. One of the reasons my dad who is well into his 80's has stopped going to away games is he finds it hard to stand for an entire game and the last one he went to he couldnt see because people were standing all game in front of him.
    If you are near the back and not affecting anyone else I dont care but if you are forcing others behind you to stand whether they want to or not its wrong

    That's right, if people stand they should stand near the back. I agree with that. If people stand and block someone's view then they should be asked to sit down or move further to the back.

    Yes, if you're five foot in height and get behind these fans who refuse to sit down you can't see a thing. Happened to me yet again at Bramhall Lane and the Stewards moved me elsewhere where I could watch the game in peace.I
    That's why I will always go upper tier, this time upper tier wasn't available.
    My friend and I who travel to the games together are both only five foot. Honestly, you can't see a thing !

    Standing does generate a better atmosphere. You can sing louder for a start stood up than you can sat down.

    Charlton away under the berk; virtually everyone stood up; cracking atmosphere some great long renditions of songs.

    A guy stood up in the gangway with his lad at Rotherham away during pre-season. The atmosphere he created was absolutely awful as he got incredibly aggressive when several people politely asked him to sit down.
