Hope people don't mind me using the forum in this way, but I posted in June about his lung cancer diagnosis and planned major surgery, and I wanted to let the many of you who offered kind words of support know how he's getting on. Unfortunately his surgery on 3rd July was abandoned as he had two cardiac arrests whilst under Anaesthetic and it became too risky to continue. Since then, he's had wonderful care on the Chemotherapy Unit at Barnsley, and has just started the 4th cycle of treatment this week. He had a scan to see how the cancer was responding a fortnight ago and we got the results yesterday. I'm truly amazed as the thing has shrunk to at least half size - his type of tumour often do not respond well, and outwardly he's improved massively, and also gradually come to terms with things. Docs impressed and are now arranging intense radiotherapy in Sheffield, a dose every day for 20 days, to potentially get rid of it. Perhaps the most pleasing thing is his return to doing normal daily things, and also coming to watch my 16 year old son play Sunday football. The latter quite special to me as he's done it week in week out since he was 5. So his progress is beyond my wildest dreams. I know he's still got a lot to get through and ultimately we can't be guaranteed anything, but our Health Service, you kind people, and his family and friends have all played a part in bringing renewed hope. And I will get him to Oakwell again!

Great news. It's amazing the things that can be done to combat what is a truly terrible disease. Hope he gets to see the Reds real soon.
