I have been on a few coaching days with John Dungworth. I don't remember which club he was coaching at. May have been Rotherham or Chesterfield.

His Dad Geoff used to live in Bartholomew Street when we were kids. Geoff had a brother called Barry who was a bit older than me. I raced with them loads of times in the 80s. I was once out running in Wombwell Wood heading for Dovecliffe when I came across Geoff running in the opposite direction. We were suddenly hit with a a heavy thunderstorm. Awful it was and quite scary. I turned back with Geoff and headed home. He had another couple of miles to get back to Darfield.

Destined to always be forgotten it seems despite managing Sweden to a World Cup final, George Raynor.

Also Dave Chambers, played for Rotherham in 1960s.

John Dungworth actually had a short period on loan with us during the 1974/75 season. He scored one of our goals in the 3-0 victory at Reading.

Another one from way back when. Guy Wharton, he played against Dizzy in the 1939 cup Final for Portsmouth who won 4-1. Guy was born in Darfield. After speaking to my brother this evening he said that Guy and Dizzy were back in Wombwell shortly after, the, cup final showing of their medals to the residents of Shipcroft.

John Schofield from Worsbrough - went to White Cross School approx 1976 to 82. Played lots of games for Lincoln and ended up managing Lincoln for a bit I think, was roughly same age as David Wilkes who also went to White Cross and played for us early 80's
