He's from Locke Park area, know his family well. They're good Barnsley people. Glad he put them out as they're the MK Dons if non league football.....

Tbf...I don't think you fully understand the situation. I'm not directly involved but know lads who support Rec & are from the area. It's in their blood & for some one to rock up with a wad of cash & take over their ground is bound to leave them bitter. Also know for a fact that Shaw Lanes owner seriously dislikes BFC. It's the equivalent of the Fowls coming to ground share at Oakwell & calling all the shots. How would you feel about that....?

If they came to Oakwell, paid us rent and developed the ground, it would hardly be a bad deal

My contempt for Shaw Lane isn’t derived from their SWFC background. They have systematically eroded and exploited every club they have associated themselves with and hold BFC in total contempt ( I cant go in to detail on this - suffice to say that BFC will never let them use facilities again). They are disliked by all the non league clubs in town due to their arrogant and conceited behaviour. Do not think this dislike is based on jealousy as I support a local non league team as well as the reds- they are a disgrace to non league football

I'm interested. What - specifically - have they done?

Well okay Wednesday would be a bit of a difference because of the rivalry we've long since had with them. But it's not the same. Shaw Lane and Athersley do not have such a rivalry like that. A better comparison would be, let's say Man City given the monetary differences (obviously geographically it would make no sense, but we'll pretend for this example).

They say 'we need a new ground, so we'd like to groundshare'
    Barnsley: 'not sure about that'
Them: 'You'll still own the ground. We'll pay you, and we'll pay to develop the ground'
Barnsley: 'It would be stupid to refuse'

As I see it, Shaw Lane are actually benefitting Athersley. Athersley will have a ground with better press facilities, proper turnstiles, more seating etc. And they're being paid for this! Hardly such a bad deal!

    Come on.
You need to provide documentary evidence, in particular regarding the reference to bfc.
Otherwise your argument has little substance.
I'm not denying there is no substance by the way, would just like some real evidence.

Instead of being annoyed with Sheffield Wednesday, I would be asking questions of our own board how we could let a situation like that happen in the first place. I don't care if Shaw Lane do well or rubbish. They will probably be another Gretna or Rushden by getting too far up the tiers to maintain it on the crowds they would get. It's up to other non league clubs in the area to try and compete with them. To see what's possible if they can find a money man to bankroll them. Be great if the success Shaw Lane have had motivates other clubs in the local area more to try and get to at least a conference north level, which is probably as far as Shaw Lane will get if they are lucky.

Have you been to a Shaw Lane v Athersley game?

I have and believe me, the rivalry is just as fierce as any. The manager of Athersley quit when he heard Shaw Lane were groundsharing.

Out of interest, if their owner was a Barnsley fan... would people still dislike them? If their owner had invested heavily into Athersley Rec, would people hate their rise through the league's and bemoan their relative riches? Because if not, it's a shame that one person's support for a rival club should colour people's view on an entire situation.

I admit that Shaw Lane's rise has a false feel about it, but I say let them enjoy it. Hopefully the other non league sides can find an investor to go on a similar journey. If they can't, it seems simply jealousy to hate another club for it.

They were described by someone yesterday as the MK Dons of non-league, such has been their ability to flout the rules and fool the authorities.

By false do you simply mean because they've invested quite heavily to facilitate the rise? If so, fair enough, but
    1) unfortunately, in pretty much every level of football, you have to spend to go up
    2) you can equally say Fleetwood, Burton, Crawley or AFC Fylde's rises have been 'false' in that way. But it's hardly a crime for clubs to want to rise up the leagues, and the only way to do this is by spending more than others. Of course, there are times when those who spend much less succeed, which is great (Leicester winning the league, Huddersfield getting promoted) but over a long period of time, the richest prevail. That's the way it is
