Not bought one, but had work dealings and seen plenty of their builds.
Built and finished to a good standard and a good after sales/customer care.
To be fair though, you just can't get away with building poor quality housing nowadays.

Granted, they lack character and have tiny gardens and narrow footpaths to maximise the number of dwellings they can get on a plot. But I don't agree about poor build quality, you just can't get away with poor build quality when you're having to issue ten year NHBC warranties.

my last two houses were new builds. I love new build houses. People who slate them have probably never bought one, or did years ago. The last time a purchased an old house it cost me a fortune in repairs and stuff

Anyway about Persimmon. Just bought a strata house and after sales have been fantastic, any problems we have had were sorted out instantly. even filled and painted a bit of skirting the dog had chewed while seeing to something else.

The assistant site manager said he had never worked for a company like strata before for after sales and getting things sorted. he said he had moved from Persimmon and their after sale care was non existent.

I don’t care what rest of estate is like. Mines a large house with a big drive on edge of the estate over looking fields, can see for miles.

Build quality is fantastic, I know because I live in one lol. But I suppose other houses that look good from the outside a better quality :).

I’m just passing in what builder told me. Persimmon May be quality build but not very good if you have a problem afterwards

Also a lot of persimmon new build houses are leasehold. Friends son pulled out of buying one at the last minute in pontefract. His son didn’t even know he gave all the info to his dad to read the day before they were signing up for it.

I used to work for Persimmon. I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole.

    1. There's a minimum build code for new build. Persimmon manufacturer a lot of the parts themselves, say the roof joists. They are the bare minimum standard wherever possible.

    2. They are a 3 star builder - and that's after hand picking who they ask to do the surveys. That means, 30% of the customers they pick to do surveys aren't happy. Imagine if they asked them all!!!!

    3. The standard spec is really poor. White oven hob extracter fan. £500 to upgrade. Very little added to the house, you are buying a magnolia shell essentially.

I left through choice as I felt it was unethical being involved in the process of giving customers a house of substandard construction/finish.

Jesus, I've just read this - Strata aftersales?? Was it Vicky at their Doncaster head office - the worst after sales we have ever had. This is our third new build as well.

No mate were in Featherstone we had eight weeks with the builders get all snagging or problems sorted before it was passed on to after sales customer care and they were brilliant. Couldn’t have been more helpful. We have only needed to call the customer care line once since to have a tile changed and it was done straight away.

My friends moved into Talor wimpey samectine as us and they are still waiting for stuff doing that they pointed out the day they moved in which was sometime in may

Cheers fella, having issues at their Hartcliff Meadows site up at Penistone and the customer service to date has been appalling. It has taken them 8 weeks to answer some very basic enquiries (including obtaining a quotation for extra tiling) and now their solicitors are putting pressure on to exchange contracts ASAP. From reading other online forums it seems like there is no after sales care and the fact it is also leasehold is giving us cold feet.

If it helps my wife is a market researcher and one of her previous assignments was new builds. By far the worst responses was persimmon homes the best was strata. This was feedback from people who had actually purchased.

I live in one. Don't touch with a barge pole. Absolutely horrendous work and even worse customer care. 3 times in 6 weeks I've emailed and still no one has come back to me. Tried ringing but always busy/no answer.

    Just putting roof on mine.

Any hassle will get sorted sharpish as I have a selection of senior management email and I can make a scene in the sales office.

Maybe it comes down to personal taste but we live in an area blessed with fantastic stone built houses so why consider anything with walls so thin you can’t even hang a picture off them?

Which site you buying at fella? The problem we're finding is that the site based sales manager (who keeps using the excuse she is still training) and her line boss just don't give a s**t. Their attitude throughout has been "well if you pull out, we will quickly find someone else to buy the property". Also the cost of the extras / internal finishes is ridiculous! Any time we have complained the response has been "it is what it is", basically you either accept it or f**k off.
