On a 2 year old My little lad has a temperature of 38.1 On antibiotics but wanted to know what you would class high and normal I always though anything above 37.5 ? Reading internet it’s very misleading
Yeah just come back from doctors got a chest Infection . Doctor never said what the temperature was other than it’s high . So just got home to do it myself and read 38.1 so wanted to know that’s all .
If youve got a fan ....stick it on....strip the little un down to vest and pants damp cloth back of neck.. temperature should come down....this weather we are experiencing isnt helping one minute its warm next its cold....if in doubt ring NHS hot line...
Anything below 39.5 requires nothing more than calpol and to be kept cool, anything over that threshold and they can potentially start having seizures. Keep a close eye on the temperature and keep them hydrated.
That's pretty much what I thought was the general rule of thumb. If anything above 39 doesn't come down with liquid paracetamol or ibuprofen, or starts rising, then you should seek urgent medical attention.
Where did you take the temperature on the body? Body temperature is often naturally a higher reading if taken in the ear compared with, say, under the armpit. So if it's a reading from in the ear, don't get overly concerned, but don't ever hesitate to get help via 111 or ED if you feel something isn't right mate. Calpol usually effective as already commented on, as is stripping off layers. Once the antibiotics get on top of the infection you should see it drop.
Overnight he reached 38.4 rang 111 and monitored him over the phone for the next hour . Taking temp every 10 mins . Managed to get calpol down him which reduced his temp This morning you wouldn’t know he had a chest infection . Still coughing but happy as lord and temp 37 Thanks for all your kind advice
