Anyone ever had a sensible/intelligent conversation with a regular marijuana user. Sadly, the stuff fks the brain up and the user doesn't realise it.

    This is a contradiction but....
    Alcohol kills people
You could talk about all the in-patients i have had to nurse over the years suffering from acute marijuana psychosis: you would be shocked to the core if you could see the effect it has on these individuals. This is the thing with cannabis, because 99.99999999% of people don't work in hospitals (mental hospitals) they have no idea what this drug can actually do to people, it's pretty horrific to witness and can last weeks. But of course many people will happily smoke it and suffer no ill effect: It's the luck of the draw. There are of course many plants where we draw many medications from but this is a separate issue altogether. I must add that i frequented many an acid house and rave party as a youth so i'm no stranger to drugs. Any one remember Shelley's?....

No doubt. But instances of psychosis directly related to cannabis consumption are, according to research, rare.

If public discourse around weed was a little more nuanced and rational, perhaps we could talk about issues related to its effect on mental health a little more seriously. Rather than people jumping to the conclusion that it should remain illegal simply because a small percentage of people experience negative side effects from it.

Like almost all things in life, it’s about moderation. Where I live, though it’s still technically illegal (prob not for much longer), we’re at the point where weed is seen as no more of an issue than alcohol. It’s entirely normal. At my work’s xmas do last year there was a bag of pre-rolled joints waiting at the bar. Though we’re unlikely to see such a turnaround in the UK anytime soon, I hope people will at least begin to be a little bit more open minded and stop discriminating against users.

Not aimed at you btw. More at the knucklehead Dustani above.

You might as well have written that in Punjabi, for all the sense it made to me :). I'm of an age where I'm not sure if you really do mean Haribo, or if that is some urban slang for nefarious products.
Bear in mind I usually hand out a bag of Haribo to my U10 & U11s teams after a match. Should I stop?

    100% yes.

    Proven to help cure cancer.
    Great for people with MS.
Great for people who suffer with chronic pain.

I fail to understand why alcohol is fine but skunk isn't? Crazy.

People can already get access to products to assist with medical conditions. I know we've huge greenhouses full of cannabis plants in East Anglia all aimed at the medicinal market.

When we spend tens of millions a year trying to get people to stop smoking, stop drinking and eat less sugar - what is the point of introducing a clearly dangerous product (driving / operating equipment whilst stoned can't be a reasonable thing do do) to the general populace at a time when we're hell bent on removing anything that is remotely fun from the working mans diet / menu on the grounds that we want them to live an extended but miserable life eating keenwa or whatever the **** it's called.

It's not rare: it's a small % who use marijuana, but large enough to have a significant impact on the public purse. I'm not anti-drugs though. I just think there are much better drugs out there to waste your money on ;)

    Playing devils advocate..

Just because alcohol and cigarettes have been accepted by the vast majority of the population for a number of years doesn't take away from the fact they're both more harmful than marijuana?

Every dealer in the country is praying it isn't legalised.
Would then be regulated & would be harder to try & pass on more harmful substances on to people.
(I'm not saying mary jane isn't harmful to some people btw, many many more harmful prescription drugs are already out there that are less effective as reducing pain too.)

People who take it now I have no issue with it. It's their life and what they do in the privacy of their own home is fine. Don't want to go glamourising it though by making it as easy to get hold of legally as guns are for Americans.

No, I have the misfortune to live next door to some uses and the smell fills our house when they are smoking it, its horrible my sons bedroom is above where they go and we can never open is bedroom window, including through the hot summer days and evening leaving it stifling and making it difficult for him to sleep, its the same throughout the house because the smell is so bad, we've all suffered headaches through it, so don't give me all this ****** about not effecting anybody, it does believe me

I've smoked bud for years, not everyday, not even every week but every now and then. I fail to see what harm it does to anybody, I really do. Get a few mates round, few joints and have a takeaway. Everyone's getting on fine, no aggression, no arguing etc.

    Alcohol, however...

Marijuana has a detrimental effect on memory and concentration - talk to any regular user at length and you'll realise how superficial their conversation is -- sadly the user him/herself doesn't realis this.

I don't smoke anything.. a ridiculous habit...tobacco or whatever else
what's more of interest is the possible medical aspect of cannabis for treating old age diseases such as dementia, arthritis and the like... seems the taboo around ganja is derailing what could be a life saver or pain relief for some folk..(?)

This documentary is pretty decent that is on iPlayer (it's a little bit BBC3, but still good). When you think that weed is being controlled by the same people who deal class A drugs that leave kids on the streets at 15, there is a good reason to say that the government should listen to the police more on these matters. Leave the users & people with small supplies of weed (including those that only have a few plants) & fight the real villains. https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p05lvr4z/drugsland-series-1-1-crack-alley

That was one of the first things that attracted me to the rave scene - absolutely no aggro whatsoever. I once asked a friend who was an ex-copper if South Yorkshire Police actually knew what went on inside Sheffield's dance clubs on a weekend, and why they didn't ever raid them? His response - it's a total waste of resources arresting a load of people dancing and hugging each other, especially when there's a shedload of fighting to deal with in the city centre when the pubs kick out.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not anti-alcohol and I love a good beer or a bottle of quality wine. But there's no doubt that too many pints turns me into a complete nobber.

Yes, me too, the lack of violence, friendly people, not having to wear office uniform to get in the place, the opposite of what was going on everywhere else.
