Not to worry. When the takeover goes through and we get millions spent on us the same people will be able to moan constantly about being a mid to lower table Premiership team. That Chien Lee, he's rubbish. He needs to get some more money spent. If we can't compete with Man Utd then where's the ambition?
Genuine question. Do you think 4 home wins in a calendar year is good or even acceptable? Do you think 9 home wins since we got promoted back to the league is a good return? Just because generally you disagree with the OP doesn’t mean you should head straight to exaggeration and hyperbole does it?
Genuine answer. Is four home wins good? No. Would I like better? Yes. Is there a way to assure better without spending money we don't currently have? No. If there is a better alternative then people should provide an explanation of it. One that doesn't include paying Conor Hourihane 25k a week to still be here or bringing in proven Championship players whose wages we can't afford even if we were to blow what money we do have on the transfer fees involved. I'm sick and tired of the hysteria every time the club has a poor run. No amount of money, even that which may be provided by the takeover, is going to turn us into a club that is insulated from the cyclical reality most sports teams have to deal with.
It isn’t a ‘poor run’ we have been consistently crap at this level since 2005. The better alternative involves being better at contracting and attempting to compete on the pitch in terms of investment with teams say like Brentford not the free spending bigger teams but the smaller fish. It involves moving the plan up a notch or two. The plan at the moment is not fit for purpose in the Championship The current team is one of the worst in the league. We aren’t adrift because Bolton and Burton are equally poor and because Hecky is a good coach. I said before the season started that it would be a better achievement than promotion keeping this team up against almost impossible odds given its lack of quality. Nothing has made me change my mind. We have always been the divisions poor relations. We have not always been this poor at home. We need to look at why. It’s not good enough to shrug and mumble about 25 grand to Hourihane. It’s like owt else in life. If you have a decent car and flog it put the money in the bank and buy an old banger for a 100 quid you won’t get the same level of car you’ll have one that’s not fit for purpose. In terms of spending money we don’t have. We are probably richer than we have ever been. We should have been able to compete for say Ollie Watkins rather than wasting similar money on Thiam and Pinnock. Ideas? I guess I’d look to create a more intimidating atmosphere. I’d put safe standings areas in the West Stand. I’d give the ‘away end’ to home supporters except for the bigger games.
You've been ok of late but this post is beyond pathetic. Shows how futile it is trying to have a debate with the Cryne apologists.
Conan, I respect your opinion on some things. We'll not agree on the Cryne thing. In truth, I'm not a Cryne apologist as much as a realist in relation to there being limitations on where the club can currently go. You can call that lack of ambition but countless owners, managers and players over 130 years must have been almost exclusively crap and disinterested because with one exception they failed to push us beyond this league. To be honest I'm getting jaded with the constant negativity on this forum. With the increasing number of political posts. With knee jerk reactions etc. That isn't aimed at you but I'm getting to the point where reading and contributing is no longer enjoyable.
I don't think there is constant negativity. Any other club with four home wins in a calendar year after dismantling their best side for 17 years would be getting hammered. Not BFC though. Four wins isn't good enough and that's a fact. We're not far off the nine wins we achieved in 2012 under Keith Hill. 2017 has been a very poor and there is no getting away from that. If some people are satisfied with just staying up every season or just having a club then that's up to them. What irks me is that if you would like a bit more you're told to support Man Utd, do we want to sign Messi and Ronaldo or do you want to end up in admin again? It's boring. It's nigh on impossible to have a debate on here.
At this point of last season we were even worse at home. At least this season we've had two cup wins. We lost heavily a few times last season as well. 5 and 4 conceded against Forest and Fulham. Our season was built on our 9 away wins. I feel for anyone that only watches the reds at Oakwell. People have their season tickets and go along, but I can't see us attracting many pay on the day fans with the fayre on show.
I know for both the wins against Sunderland and Birmingham we lost the toss and had to kick towards the Ponty first half not the second where most of the time we kick the other way first Does that have any influence or is it just coincidence?
This season is all about staying up, gelling as a team & getting 30+ games for most of the young lads playing at this level for the first in their careers. Next season is where we look to push on.
Next season is about selling the players if we can get them to the required standard. As is this season.
Given that Barnsley have always sold players from time immemorial why do you think we sold players last season and may do again?
I don't think we'll ever push on at this level unless we get taken over and some money injected. People talk about "the plan" but calling it "a plan" is really just giving a name to something that we've pretty much done for quite some time, which is sell our best players and buy cheap. Only reason we probably won't sell this January, is because Yiadom aside, we don't have anything that would improve another championship team. All considered, I suppose were "pushing on" by not occupying the current bottom 3 places.
That’s completely disingenuous as an argument and does not reflect the situation over the last 12 months. In the past we have often sold our star players. Occasionally even a couple. We have not sold an entire teams worth.
Away results have been better since the Millwall game, but I always looked upon last season as being a special one on our travels and I think we all knew it wasn't likely to be repeated, so our home form had to be better this time round. I just hope Reading and Bolton are as poor as Millwall and Burton.
What irks me is , if you try & be positive you are labelled as talking sh--e , being a happy clapper or blowing out of the clubs ar-e, its boring & nigh on impossible to have a debate on here. When I asked you a straight question on what your blueprint for the future would be , you refused to answer but in an effort for reasonable debate , I look forward to reading what you think is the way forward & how we could go about achieving your aims
