Idea. Sell assets to create a positive balance sheet to encourage a buyer. Not ideal is it, but consider the circumstances.
It could be argued that both Winnall and Hourihane would’ve left regardless the following summer. We didn’t sell Scowen or Watkins, both left on a free. The only under contract first XI players we’ve sold are Roberts and Bree. I think we missed a trick with Roberts and I would’ve preferred to see Winnall see out his contract and leave on a free given his record and the measly sum recovered but I don’t begrudge the club or the player in the Hourihane deal. Scowen would be great for this team now but he hardly got a kick in central midfield in the promotion season or August to January prior to Hourihane’s departure and everyone knows how poor we were from January onwards even with Matty James in midfield.
I don't think it was ever that well thought through mate.. that was just a by-product. Just simply to stop Pat putting dosh in.
It's not like we put a gun to their heads and drove them. They left for no.money to bigger clubs to play confront of bigger crowds. It' the football food chain. Unfortunately in recruitment we looked at league 2 and players who have struggled to bridge the gap we should have took the cream from league one we got promoted the plan stayed in league one.
I'm not sure about that. Given the circumstances and the timing I think there may have been a different plan at play.
