Did not having much ambition to keep that squad together mean we didn't want to give him a 400%pay rise? Did he talk well of his time at BFC before the multi billionaires took over?
Hard for me to agree I'm afraid. I'm comfortable financially even if I was jobless. Fortunate. I do the things in life that I do, out of a love and pride for it. Especially my work. Cannot fault anyone for taking more money though. If I wasn't fortunate, I'd do the same probably.
I'm not knocking good wages or wealth, just the comment that we lacked ambition when in reality we weren't able to match or beat offers from other teams, if that's what he neant.
I guess. Would have had more time for Sam and he left in a more honourable manner but everything at the time was poor. The day he left, the ‘leaked’ photo, the half arsed twitter note. Loved him when he played for us and didn’t begrudge him moving on, just found the manner of it all disappointing considering how much he supposedly thought of the club and it’s fans.
What difference does the league we were in make? He went for more money. If we had been guaranteed never to get relegated he'd still have gone.
I’m pretty sure “the things going on behind the scenes” he was referring to was the fact none of the other players liked him. A few players including Hammill and Bree have said he’s arrogant and a trouble causer. Thanks for the good times sam, but good riddance
I wasn’t commenting on why he had been transferred or anyone else but on our relegation fight. Every player of any significance, other than Roberts, who left us is in a team in a higher league position than us. We are equally likely to exit the league via the bottom than say Villa are at the top. Any outsider looking in could not criticise that as a career move.
Funny, I felt completely differently about the SSW bit. Yes, he talked about the special days in the promotion season but couldn't help thinking that in what he said it was all about him. Other players talk and it's about the contribution they make to the team, he talks and it's about him. He also justified his behaviour in the Wednesday game: "I thought I had a right to give it back", when the most sensible option would've been to apologise and simply say "It was silly, I got carried away and I regret it." And the interviewers let him off the hook. They should've pushed him on that point and should've brought the last question forward - the bit when he admitted he was a drama queen. Investigating why would have been the most interesting bit of all. Still, it's all about opinions isn't it. Don't want him back though! Ever!
Sums Winnall up that. ‘Lack of ambition’ can be translated to ‘didn’t want to risk the financial future of the club by offering us huge wages on long contracts’. What’s wrong with the bloke? Why doesn’t he use his head? The owner was seriously ill with cancer & he’s expecting big contracts to be fished out when Cryne’s trying to sell the club. The only ‘lack of ambition’ was selling Winnall & co in January when we had a decent chance of making the play offs
