I've not got a clue if he's any good as a footballer, but because of his off-field troubles he's the type of player I think we should give a chance to. He may benefit from being away from London, he may come at a lower price (salary) and he may be hungry to get his career back on track. If he's any good, give the lad a chance on a short term contract.
A Premier League defender with issues. One is a positive thing, the other is negative. Will split opinions.
I think we’re quite good at centre back with Lindsay, Jackson MacDonald and Pinnock. If he can get past his off the field problems though I reckon he’ll get back to being decent.
But if he's better than all of them it doesn't matter. Pinnock out on loan would be better and him in. Was going to make a post about this type of thing the other day. The Vaz Te type player.
Exactly this, if thats the case then we shouldnt sign anymore central midfield players?? If he's better than what we have then its a definate yes.
Bearing in mind Pinnock has come into the first team and done well in recent weeks? And who’s to say he’s better than them? Rather have Lindsay than him.
When I listed the 4 defenders I wasn’t talking in terms of numbers that we’re good, I was talking in terms of level of ability. The 4 centre backs that we have are all solid enough in my opinion and it’s not a position we should be worrying about.
Wasn't he in the throes of depression? I suspect that has affected his ability to function, let alone play football to a high standard.
Why would we send pinnock out on loan he has come in the center defence and played very well he was the best player on the pitch on boxing day. I do think center defence we are okay and if he isn't good enough for QPR then it' a no from me.
It sounds like he needs to try and deal with his health issues first and foremost, and then work on ressurecting his career. I dont think, even with the new regime, we can afford to take the risk on someone who couldn't be guaranteed to be in a fit state to play, although maybe there is scope for a pay as you play? Hope he comes through his issues positively though.
Why would we loan Pinnock out after he's came into the side and made the defence look better? Oh wait a minute... just remembered we signed him from non league and he didn't start out at a premier league academy so therefore he is deemed not good enough. The former Dulwich Hamlet man.
He's spoken previously about the fact that when he's tried to take time off and get treatment it just feeds his anxiety as he's worried about not getting back into the team, he then can't cope and goes back on the sauce, which feeds the depression. A vicious circle. Having suffered from at least one of his three demons myself, he has my total sympathy. I think he has to put his health first and if his release means that he can focus solely on getting better it could be the right move for him. He's young enough to dedicate solely to getting better for a period and then come back, if he wants to, in a year or so. I wish him well. The underlying issue for me is how poorly football with all its mega bucks deals with mental illness (along with other things).
