I think Brentford are entitled to some of it , but I do not know how the deal was structured apart from I believe its 15% & also we received a payment when Alfie made a certain number of ist team appearances
Mawson quoted as saying he doesn't want to leave Swansea until at least they know their fate. He wants to help in their fight to stay in the Premiership.
According to their forum last week , they were rubbing their hands about the money they were going to receive if Swansea sold Alfie , they would not be the first club to tie up a sell on clause with a player even after the initial sale
I do not disagree with you , but I read the thread with interest because of the obvious connection with us, & the Brentford fans were adamant that they would get some financial gain should Alfie be sold
Not saying it is, but if it's anything like our Stones sell on clause then it wouldn't necessarily. We have 15% of any profit Everton make from him, so if they had a sell on in place when they sold him, then we'd get 15% of whatever they get from the next sale and so on.
Hypothetical add on clause calculation assuming Brentford have a sell on clause of 15% and so do we. I am assuming that Brentford's selling price was £500k, ours £5m, and Swansea's £25m purely for ease of calculation. When we sold Mawson to Swansea for £5m, Brentford were entitled to 15% of £4.5m (£5m-£500k), ie £675k. If we increase that selling price by £3m (£20m x 15%), then Brentford are entitled to 15% of that sum (£450k). If Swansea include a sell on clause in Mawson's subsequent transfer and he is sold at a profit by his next club, both clubs are entitled to their shares of the proceeds of the next sell on..
It does not have to end , if the deal is structured around proffits from sell ons , then it can go on as long as players value goes up
My understanding on sell on clauses is they last solely for the one transfer on from the club who bought him, so Brentford have had their chips. If I’m wrong, let’s start a campaign to get John Stones to Barcelona for £150million
To follow on , I think but am not certain , that Luton tied up Andre Grey on a similar kind of deal , but may be someone will jump straight down my throat & say " Absolutely not , where will it end "
