looking to get new one - 32inch - any advice on make - from Currys/John Lewis/Amazon/elsewhere. thanks
Do you have any specific requirements from it and are you wanting top end or budget? Also are you sure you want 32" as for not a lot of difference in price you can get quite a bit bigger screens which seem much more value for money
My son has a Samsung 32" LED Smart TV on his bedroom wall, stunning picture, set up for streaming and catch up TV. We've also got a 40" Samsung as our main TV and it's been faultless for 7 years now. Can highly recommend. Only observation I have, purely personal and not sure if it's my eyes, is that I find screens beyond 40" can get pixelated as the pixels themselves are getting larger to fit the screen. Ultra HD deals with that but at a price and only when the programme is broadcast in Ultra HD.
I have a 32" Samsung Tv like the one metarsal is talking about - got it last year from Currys - all the catchup Tv and I've got Netflix and Amazon Prime on there - was around 190 I think ... great picture as well
I wouldn't have another Samsung if you paid me. Great picture, but the BBC iPlayer function is no longer supported, despite the model only being about 5 years old. Also a problem on some recent models too, so my advice would be to do your homework before shelling out https://eu.community.samsung.com/t5/TV-Audio-Video/BBC-iPlayer-witholding-service/td-p/262556# https://www.theguardian.com/money/2016/nov/19/missing-iplayer-samsung-smart-tv-licence-issue
Interesting that you say that. I have a Samsung TV 4k Ultra LED Crystal and all that ballax. I followed the calibration settings on Youtube to get the perfect picture, had it two years and the picture was stunning. Recently whilst watching Blue Planet on HD l noticed pixelated blacks and on other programmes too where a darker picture is shown a lot that l've never seen before. I have gold plated HDMI cables so l'm ruling those connections out, l have checked sky and the output is set to auto. I've been googling it for two weeks and in the process of emailing Samsung. My internet connection is not cracking but its always in double figures so the HD picture should be perfect. A tip for anyone buying a new tv, don't just get it out of the box and plug it in, google the make and model and calibration to get the best settings. Some people post them on the internet, for a guy to come out and do it would cost between £200-£300. A lot are on here: https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews
For digital signals (such as HDMI) that adds no value at all. Either you have a connection or you don't. They may have made sense for analogue signals (although the practical effect on those can be argued as well), but for this it won't add any value. Are you watching Blue Planet through iPlayer? It could be your internet connection that wasn't able to get a full HD stream through at all times. And online streams tend to get a bit more compression anyway. The live broadcast may have been a bit clearer. I'm just guessing ofcourse, there could be a genuine issue with your system. You absolutely make a good point about going through the settings and calibrating though.
I've read that about the gold plated HDMI leads, l think the jury is out on them. Blue Planet was recorded through live TV via my Sky box, intially l went to my sky settings, then a lot l had read about thought the source was to blame. I thought you didn't need too fast a broadband to get true HD (3.5 Mbps according to Amazon). I haven't been able to get 4k through any source yet Youtube, Netflix or Amazon Prime - even though it's saying its streaming UHD. I have an info button telling me the true signal coming through. It may be that while the young un was watching Paw Patrol he's managed to change the settings. He's getting put up for adoption if he has.
Forget your Samsung, LG etc, get a Cello look it up on google the only TV now made in the country, factory up in Durham gets good reviews. Back a British job buy made in Britain.
I’ve got a hisense TV - was slightly reticent not getting Samsung, Panasonic etc but they are the leading brand in China and trying to break into Europe. Brilliant TV and amazing value it was 699 for 65’’ ultra hd a year ago gonenup a little but still offers great value. I bought a couple of 49’’ ones for bedrooms off the back of it and they are also excellent - couldn’t recommend highly enough.
Have you had it long? If you have one of the newer models then maybe the problem has been sorted with a software upgrade.Unfortunately I'm stuffed. The BBC gave a long list of (relatively) older Samsung models that could no longer access iPlayer directly and, sadly, mine was on the list. The workaround is to buy an Amazon Firestick or something similar, but I'm loathe to fork out extra just to get back the functions I paid for in the first place. I think I spotted something similar about some Sony models too when I was looking into the issue a while back.
