They can call it what they like if it brings money in. Has anyone had a problem with the C K Beckett Stand or the Investment Rooms Stand? Thought not.
I was thinking about this when the deal was taking what seemed like longer to complete than expected and it was queried whether the land/stadium issue was a problem in them not being able to obtain Patricks share - well what if the hold up was because they didn't want to buy Patricks 50% of the stadium what if they only wanted to pay for the club?- what if they were thinking why would we only want 50% of a stadium and what is the point of them, for example, buying a new scoreboard or spending money on building enhancements that they will not see a return on? I'm guessing the council don't put 50% of the funds up for any stadium improvements? perhaps they think its better to continue to pay a rent for the use of the facilities and therefore have an option to walk away somewhere else if they wish, where they could build something and own it all and it be an easier sell on in the future?
Middlesbrough built a new stadium at Riverside. The previous year they had 10,000 season ticket holders , however they sold out the Riverside and had to extend it from its original 25,000 capacity.
I think that's why Huddersfield's new ground was so successful. It was built literally down the road from the old ground, so supporter routines weren't hit.
Something like the new stand at Preston would probably fit. Steep single tier. And I'd love the dressing rooms and tunnel back on halfway. Go back as far as boundaries allow?
Yep, the back of the stand would be where the red brick wall currently is. Plenty of room underneath for toilets and refreshments etc.
Wombwell??? it's far too steep in East stand as it is west stand would be even steeper PP notwithstanding... knock lot down..theres plenty of land at side of the current ground..it's not big enough as it is currently, plus it's difficult for expansion, and transportwise it mayve been ok in 1890s not in 2020s...
I think they had to have the East Stand pitched as steep as it is as there is a Yorkshire Water mains pipe that stopped them having the foundations any further back. Maximised the number of seats, and the angle of rake is at the design maximum, something like 40 degrees.
How is the current Oakwell not fit for purpose? A current capacity of 23,000, which could be increased to perhaps 30,000, with some filling in of the corners, plus sympathetic refurbishment of the West Stand to retain its character. No way would I want to move to some soulless tubular affair miles from the town.
I’d probably jack it in. It would also be a pointless expense. Oakwell is ideally situated. Easy to get to and gives us room to grow. If you want to spend money replace the West Stand, fill the sides in, spruce up the rest and build a social club under the East Stand concourse.
Would be nice having a new stadium built, but it would be just as nice for the current stadium to be upgraded. West Stand is alright but i'd like to see all corners be connected instead of separate.
For those debating how to fit a decent sized west stand into the space. Well that's simple, the east stand would fit in the save between the pitch and the boundary wall. It doesn't look like it but it would.
Utilizing the facilities 365 daya a year Improved sponsorship Different and expanded income streams Basically its limitless they can augment the business however they see fit
