BE GREAT IF THEY DID IT LIKE THIS https://www.mancity.com/ticket information/matchdays at the etihad stadium
I don't think that is too far different to what they do in Nice. I would expect something similar coming to a ground near you, some time in the future.
my question would be; would that draw fans to Oakwell earlier? for me personally it wouldnt, i like to get in 10/15 mins before kick off and be straight off home afterward...i know everyone is different and obviously i'd like it to be a success etc... but is it something realistically viable at Oakwell?
For families yes, throw some beer in and a bar big enough to accommodate and you've got the blokes in.
I have been saying to the lads since the takeover happened that they could possibly start to get fans to the ground earlier if they had some sort of fan zone. I suggested to the side of the east stand (if possible) maybe use a huge marquee, selling alcohol and soft drinks. Big screen for early kick offs, maybe something like Barnsley style face painting and tombola type thing for the kids. Just suggestions for the owners
With reference to the other thread that’s running regarding Oakwell, I wonder how many City fans are missing Maine Road? A nice round number I suspect.
Enhancing the matchday experience, hmm! I don't recall them doing much for the away fan. You had to show your home ticket to get in the Fans zone and nothing else was available for the away fan until you had entered the stadium.
Below 30k for most of the 90s, unbelievable support in league 1. http://european-football-statistics.co.uk/attnclub/manc.htm
I think a lot of barnsley fans would say exactly the same, but they are in that mindset because there has never been anything like that on offer before. I'm guessing a lot of man city fans would also have said exactly the same, but times change, peoples attitudes change and if all it does is provide entertainment to attract more families to games and provides a central eat, meet and drink point for the misters, I think it's a cracking idea.
As has been said on the other thread, could do with using some of that vacant space in the East Stand, almost looks as if there was meant to be another floor or two in there that never got done. With the weather in this country you couldn't expect the club to go to the expense of putting on outdoor events at every match as hardly anyone is going to go if the temperature is as low as it has been for the last two months.
All it needs is a big heated marquee behind the East stand. Next to no outlay on building it and no ongoing maintenance costs.
Any positive suggestions on what would improve the whole match day experience for the full breadth of supporters whilst increasing attendances and revenue?
