    WTF has happened here !!!
We have gone well off piste wi this foooker !!!
Just a reminder fellas and fella-esess.
    The question is:

We seem to have eager owners willing to push the boat out and bring in decent players - coupled with the best manager in the football league - have we got the right CEO that is capable of linking these two parts of the club together by making sure the right players are brought in on time?

In my opinion - the jury is very much out at the moment.

Yes, I know all of that, but why is that a reason to hate Mr Cryne. The way that you might hear it if Mr Cryne ever gets the time to write his Oakwell Years might throw a different light on those conversations. They might suggest that he had no faith in Mr Dennis's ability, they might suggest that far more money was required to save the club than Mr Dennis had suggested. There could well be other reasons why he decided to pull out, but when he did so, the bank had no option. It does not matter how many times I read John Dennis's book, I will still only get his side of the story, and that is unlikely be a balanced view of what happened.

Another argument about what happened back then is not the thrust of my argument here. My argument is why certain people seem to use any excuse to hate Patrick Cryne, even though he was the one who saved our club. And however you want to dress it up, he was the one.

I've read it, and it is excellent. Makes you realise that both John Dennis and his father, before him, lived and breathed BFC. ITV Digital was the major downfall, plus there were complications with shareholders with every single one having the right to vote on matters, even if somebody owned just one share and lived in Australia, their vote was needed.

Yes I can grasp it, but that is not how companies with multiple share holders change hand.

OK, why are you so unwilling to give Mr Cryne any credit?

It's hardly irrational Redstar. Conan, for as long as I can remember, has cast aspersions about Patrick Cryne's motives and decried his efforts at every opportunity. You've been not far behind. That's your prerogative I guess but you can't get precious when the majority of fans challenge you on it.

Why on earth are you talking about hating Mr Cryne? No one hates him.

Cryne’s offer and the bank pulling the plug on the overdraft were NOT related and were separated by some time, during which the directors made many efforts to resolve the cash flow issues they were facing. In fact had they managed to make it to the end of that season the chances are that admin would have been avoided.

How would Mr Cryne know how much money was needed when there was no disclosure of information beyond his knowledge that the club faced a cash flow problem that they were working to fix?

Oh and he did not “pull out”. His offer was turned down!

I dare say that a tome written on Mr Cryne’s recollections is just as likely to be biased...

It didn't change hands in that way did it? The offer was not accepted. It was made. This is a fact. However - I'll ask you again - are they the actions of a reluctant custodian?

I may have questioned his ability and decisions and I don’t generally join in the professional love in but to say I hate the man is rather strong. I don’t know him. I do know people that don’t like him having worked for him but as I say I don’t know him so can’t comment. I only comment on what I see and know from the time of the collapse into admin and the inconsistency of his actions prior to this with his latter day reluctant custodian message.

On a personal level I hope he can beat the terrible disease he has and see his team rise up the leagues.

I have no doubt that any account written by Mr Cryne would be written from his stand point and would state his view of things. If we had both sides of the argument, we would be better placed to judge. At the moment we have only one side, so it makes judgement more difficult.

Mr Cryne is an accountant by training. I feel sure he would have wanted to look at the accounts before he committed to any loan. That would have given him a better idea about the size of the hole BFC directors were trying to dig their way out of.

You’d have to ask those involved as to how they thought it would work; the fact remains that the offer was made and rejected!

At the time we are talking about, I was employed by the Barnsley Chronicle (not on the editorial side I hasten to add). Mr Cryne kept the sports department up to date on what was happening from his side of the fence. Much of what I have related was told to me in conversation with Keith Lodge, including the fact that he could not see a possibility of any other credible saviour coming along, which meant that he reluctantly had to do so. Now I do not think he did a bad job as a reluctant custodian, especially compared to the alternative.

I ask again why you are so reluctant to give him any credit.

You see the problem is this. A lot of you made your minds up a long time ago about Patrick Cryne, often on the basis of misinformation. His actions since should have rectified that imbalance, but for some reason, many are not prepared to give him the benefit of any doubt. In my view, he has done as much as his limited finance would allow, and in order to convince me that he has not been a benefit to Barnsley FC, you are going to have to convince me that we were liquidated in 2002.

As I remember from people involved at the time (Not Patrick). Patrick offered to underwrite a share rights issue that, if accepted, would have avoided Administration. 2 million rings a bell but my memory isnt the best. I understand the Chairman was behind this offer and took it to the board but a plan to raise their own share rights issue was hatched instead. This plan required divulging financial details to the bank who then became aware of the true financial picture and the overdraft was pulled. To be clear, we wouldn't have gone in to admin if they had accepted Cryne's offer. Not putting this to she shareholders was a mistake. When it became clear administration was inevitable Patrick was advised to buy the club from the administrator by his advisers since it seemed unlikely there would be too many bidders. Obviously Doyle and the Sterling Consortium's involvement cost him an extra 5m quid. A reluctant custodian who tried to buy the club several times? Could be but it seems unlikely that there wasn't at least some desire there - who wouldn't want to own the football club if they could? Equally, there weren't exactly a queue of others buyers with the financial backing so he was the buyer of last resort. It's good pr though :)

You, like most people on here, myself included, don't have a clue what his capabilities are other than in perhaps PR terms. What you have missed in your recap is the fact that he has delivered a takeover to safeguard the club's future. The consortium he has been dealing with as part of this, who ARE in a position to assess his capabilities, have rewarded him with a seat on the board. I propose the Jury isn't out at all. The jury have spoken. You are either on one of your usuall fishing trips or you don't quite comprehend that during this window things take time, if we're going for a player who is quality so will other clubs. Agents tactics will try to get the best price, as will the selling club to generate more interest. Fact is, most deals are done at the end of the window when the games have to end. Its really that simple. (I suspect it's the former by the way and I have bitten)

Gally. You've got to admit that he's not doing well from the outside. He's got little interest in talking to the fans . He was sat slump in his chair when I looked over yesterday.

I've heard Chien Lee speak more than him outside of a Q&A

Nar then - we have a proper response here.
And then its spoilt by saying silly things about 'fishing trips' and 'bitten'.
    Surprised by that.

But what if - just what 'if' the initial post is from a genuine person just voicing a genuine point of view?
Have we come to a point where anything genuine is unidentifiable and impermissible.

Are you saying - that this message board is not up to that - that the message board is not for genuine debate anymore - all it is now is just a vehicle for the bandwagoners to jump on board the latest bandwagon that rides past and then just nod.
Like nodding dogs on the back seat of a car.

I gave you a genuine answer. The caveat is just based on the fact I've spoken to you in the real world as well and I know you aren't adverse to winding folk up.
