I know many of you’s on here will have been expecting this post- and willing to can it. But hear me out, if he is on affordable wages we might just be able to get the best out of a man who may enjoy his football without the pressure of being at a ‘’massive’’ club.

    He’s just had a 60k a week contract cancelled.

Not a chance and I wouldn’t want him here either.

His wages are probably 10 times what we're willing to pay.

Not only that, he's made of Cleenex.

And in the 3 and a half years he played for Sunderland, he featured on the winning team once. One win in nearly 4 years of football.

I was going to start a thread on this guy myself but decided not to , however , everything I dislike about football & especially the Premier League points me to Mr Rodwell. I was only talking about him last week to my son & saying how he was wasting away at Sunderland & how he might be worth a punt & then by sheer coincidence a couple of days later he makes the news . I read that he was on £70 ,000 a week & was prepared to see out his contract in the reserves & collect over £5 million in wages for the pleasure or alternatively he was prepared to negotiate a settlement . At best he was an average premier league player with potential which had not been reached , he was paid a kings ransom by a struggling club who were guilty of paying average players silly money by virtue of the wealth of the league & ultimately paid the price by getting relegated , but the greed of some players shines like a beacon. I ask myself , if we were to reach the promised land again , would I welcome the Rodwells of this world to our club ? is it worth the risk to throw silly money at players in the hope we survive ? I am sure we would all love us to be rubbing shoulders with the elite again but sometimes I ask myself searching questions & I dont always like the answers , Thoughts please

Could always become a porn star. With a surname like that he could be the natural successor to Ben Dover.

I don’t have a lot of sympathy for Sunderland. They’ve spent the last 5 years just signing players not good enough for Man Utd & Everton rather than doing some proper scouting.

I don’t really blame Rodwell, he’s injury prone & probably won’t ever get another contract on more than £5k a week. His days as a footballer are limited & he might have another 60 years on this planet.

Sunderland were the ones stupid enough to put an injury prone player on this contract with no relegation clause.

Sunderland are the bigger criminals in all this, dishing out massive contracts with no relegation clauses & then making staff at the club redundant when they were relegated. Disgusting

Everything you say is correct but you cant blame the player accepting Sunderlands money . Maybe he doesn't apply himself in training or put the effort in during a match which is a different matter altogether . He certainly isn't the first or wont be the last bone idle footballer , we've got a couple ourselves .
I remember the story about Seth Johnson who moved from Derby to Leeds , he went into Ridsdales office with the intention of demanding no less than 20k a week , Ridsdale said to him " we are offering you 30 grand a week and not a penny more" . Its easy spending someone else's money .
