“What people don’t understand is when you analyse the last January transfer window – I don’t think the mistake was done in January. It had been done six or 12 months before by not offering new deals to players at the right time. When you arrive in January with a player with six months left, what do you want to do?" I know he is relatively new here but ye gods..... we all could see that months before the disaster happened. The question to be answered is why it was allowed to happen? Old news now, I know, but it obviously still rattles cages down at Oakwell. As he goes on to say, it must never happen again. Wonder who the finger of blame is being pointed at?
Good interview. Enjoyed that. Think he’ll grow into the role nicely. Also pleasing to hear Hecky will likely get additional coaching support and more support for recruitment. Sounds like GG is listening and trying to help Hecky as much as possible.
Interesting to see they're allowing Hecky to bring in another coach. I've always thought our coaching set-up has been a bit thin for quite a few years, especially compared to other teams in this league.
The thing is tho the season before we where in league 1 at christmas time we where at the bottom and we could easily have been in league 2 never mind the championship. We couldn't really give contracts out not knowing the league we where to be in. Then with promotion we could have given contracts out only to be relegated straight away. I think we where just victims of our own success really
This all day long. We essentially didn't gamble, which in hindsight looks like a poor decision but nobody expected us to be flying high in December like we were doing. We'll never know the actual truth, but certain players didn't want to discuss new contracts depending on what story you read or choose to believe. Cryne always said that these players deserved their opportunity to keep as many options open as possible.
I wonder if they are talking about a sporting director. I watched a little video about one actually last time. The guy Ramón Rodríguez Verdejo it was. He had one well in Spain and made the move to Rome in the summer.
Hecky wants to be careful what he wishes for. A head of recruitment is essentially a director of football and lines can quickly become blurred between that position and head coach.
Very informative interview,Thank you for sharing this. The Club appear to be on top of things; plus PH interview on the Radio talking about more permanent signings rather than loans.
Not necessarily. He probably wants somebody to do the work involved with signing new players and getting them over the line, so he can spend his time more wisely.
