Funicular been on a good few when ski-ing. Also this beauty in Lynmouth/Lynton http://www.cliffrailwaylynton.co.uk/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Funicular https://www.bing.com/images/search?q=funicular&qpvt=funicular&FORM=IGRE
You are missing the point. I can vaguely see from the drawing what they are planning but these are NOT funiculars. It's just a wrong use of the word - either from the council or from the Chronicle.
That is a massive change in the plan. Though better, it was originally meant to come into the new car park.
The plans (and overall design tbf) look exactly the same as the funiculars on the Paleisbrug bridge. The glass housing either end of the bridge isn't a covered escalator. I believe the location of the bridge was switched from the original plans when the overall designs were updated and included a new multi-storey car park that wasn't initially planned - thus making Market Gate Car Park a less important feature of the development. Although the landing deck is still adjacent to the car park and the artist impression suggests some of the spaces in Market Gate Car Park will be lost to accommodate the bridge. I'm impressed by this design and think they've made the best use of a tight space on the Pontefract Road side.
