I do wish Hecky would stop over coaching at times, the back fours looked fairly solid, the keeper needs geniune competition for his spot.
And generally most would agree, Central midfields at defcon 5!!!!!!

Not Hecky's fault. He had to try something, we basically don't have a balanced midfield because one player is suspended and another couldn't play against his parent side. Plus we let 2 midfielders go out on loan.

Fact is the chequebook needs opening next week in order to save our season.

4 at the back with no midfield and only hammill for the wing would have likely led to the same result. Our poor squad is now short on numbers as well. Not a good recipe for playing away at one of the better sides in the league.

Hard to know what the outcome would have been 4-4-2 from the start. Doubt we would have got anything either way, but looked more solid and threatening.

If Bradshaw, Moore and Thiam don’t find their scoring boots it’ll not matter. Woeful up front today.

Big week - need a CM, Winger and Striker who are better than what we already have. Not lower league potential and not foreign unknowns. Sign them by all means in the summer.

Some promise in that second half. But hard to judge given we were so outplayed in that first half.

At least Fulham are looking ***** at the moment....

Sorry guys we had midfield issues, and changed the shape and Organisation of the entire team.
Went back to 442 in the second half, and looked more organised, I like Hecky Brilliant Manager, but like most coaches maybe over analyses things at times, but it’s a lesson learned I hope.

    Onwards and upwards COYR

It's often easier to look better once you are behind in the game. I take the point and i too think it was a mistake. But ultimately I believe today was a no win situation.

532/352 was the optimal formation today with the players we had available, as many on here were saying all week. We just didn't defend crosses early on, just as we've been struggling to do all season with a back four. Still, we don't have to worry about Villa or Wolves now for the rest of the season, except when they play the rest at the bottom! Defo need to invest in more firepower though - one goal from 21 shots is typical for us this year. COYR.

Should never have let 2 centre-mids go out on loan without replacement... poor management sorry.

Fully agree, Mcgeehan only got a short 15 minute spell today at Scunny. Totally pointless.

I don't get how anyone can say Hecky is a brilliant coach/manager. We are stareing a relegation battle in the face with a team who don't seam to have any guideance what so ever. I know that its probably not entirely Heckys fault but today was one of the only times ive seen him change tactics at half time. I wonder if fans would be so in ore of Hecky if he wasn't one of our own I don't like to say it but is he the man to take us forward .We need a manager not a head coach yes man.(stand up for yourself they are your teamand sort it out before its too late

The reasoning behind rating Hecky, are as follows

    1. A side destined for the 3rd tier of English football, before Hecky become involved in the first team as a coach in the infancy, and then manager at a later stage, he had a direct impact on first team performances it was there for all to see.
    2. The way he developed and nurtured that team, to a team that gave me personally two of the best days I’ve ever experienced in my time as a Barnsley fan.
    3. According to all the pundits a side destined to be relegated from The Championship in our first season, he managed a side in the first six months that really didn’t look out of place in the championship.

Then the side gets desimated due to rank bad management above Heckys Pay Grade, Sorry Patrick, our Management of contracts was amateur at best.

    4. Gets a new bunch of never beens, I’d never heard of most of these players, and starts turning us yet again into a basic Championship outfit, our back fours starting to improve, he’s trying to improve all over the park.

I honestly don’t know of any past Manager that could do a better job, I’m looking at Lyndsey,Pinnock,Jackson,Cavare,Mallan,Thiam, and few more and thinking yes we’ve a few Championship players.

Just my opinion, the job he’s done with the restrictions he’s worked under, it’s been second to none.

And he’s still learning the game, he’s going to the top Hecky, enjoy him whilst you can

    Excellent points, well made.
I'm behind Hecky, 100%, but a question for those who aren't - If we were to replace him, who would you replace him with?

For example, Paul Lambert has just landed himself a job in the PL. Was he the best available candidate for Stoke, because I wouldn't want him managing us.
Carvahal spent millions failing to get Sheff Wed into the PL, then lands himself the Swansea job replacing one of the most knowledgable men in the game.

So unless it's an unknown foreign manager, I really don't believe a better manager or head coach is currently available.

Give Hecky the right tools to work with, expectations are low this season, survival will do for now.

You either don't know much about football - or you have a short memory of what happened this time only a year ago.

A team like we had last January may be once in a decade event.
We can't now throw a full new squad together and hope to do well.
In fact I believe the opposite of this - Barnsley deserves to be relegated on what they did last season.

Hecky is left to put fires out.
Just like all Barnsley managers have been putting fires out in the last 13 years.
We have sacked a lot of good managers during that time.
We should try to hold onto this one who has shown he can do it - if properly supported by the owners.

Agree midfield as a whole was poor, Moncur tried to attack and won a few free kicks and produced and decent shot 2nd half, Mallan's delivery looks half decent and Potts struggled. Baring in mind its 3 attacking style midfielders who were playing deep, no wonder we struggled. I think we only looked poor up front cause the midfield support wasn't there. We were nowhere near any 2nd balls after Moore winning headers.
