... the belief held largely on here that these new summer recruits would get better and gel into a team as the season went on? The truth is of course that eventually we get to see them as individuals, who are either good enough or not. For much of the season I thought the "team" was playing well enough (which in my terms is so as to stay in this league) to allow the limited number of players to be amended if necessary so that we did indeed stay in this league. Now, I think that the team itself is simply not good enough. Teams can, almost suddenly, improve. We did it beyond measure not so long ago. But I do not think that shipping in 3 or 4 players will make the difference.
depends on the quality of the players. But its beyond doubt that we need a huge improvement, and at present we do not have the quality to do it.
probably need 5 or 6 tbf to cover off injuries etc between now and EOS. Already got 2 in, moore and pinillos, need another keeper, eastwood hopefully, another in form striker from god knows where cos we don't know where the net is and thats worrying then two ball winning midfielders that can organise, narsmuller? plus one other.
Depends massively on the quality. If those coming in can control matches and score goals it would be a huge boost to all the others.
We've got a solid CH partnership developing, promising full-backs even if Yids goes, two good CMs (albeit both loanees), two decent wide-men in Isgrove and Hammill, two forwards who've scored 25 goals between them already this season, and a handful of young attacking wildcards in Mallan, Hedges and Thiam who look to have decent potential. So for me we need a good 'keeper to challenge Davies, a midfield playmaker, an extra winger and a reliable supplier of goals at Championship level. We're not too far off.
It was just an illusion to think that we could sign so many players and expect them all to be good enough and be good enough straightaway. Anyone who thought this could happen was just kidding themselves. 30 to 40 percent was all that were going to come off. Signing so many at once was always going to be a failure.
