Arthur Scargill has confirmed that (after conning all members of the NUM for many years) is to open a statue of him made out of the metal previously allocated to Mrs T's edifice. What a result!

I don't understand this post by you fatalbert, but having worked in the coalmines for 27 years 23 on the coalface I can a sure you Arthur Scargill never conned me or anyone who worked in the mines if it was not for him we would not have a decent pension I could go on and on about what he did for the miners, there family's, and widowed miners wife's but I'll not.

Agree with you on all of that UPTC .
Seems the ones calling him have no idea just what he did for the miners shows how shallow some of his haters are.
Maybe he should have chosen Fartalbert as his username

Yes Arthur has pinned his colours quite readily to the mast over recent years.

Covered himself in glory over his attempts to hang onto his privileges has he not?

The same privileges that previous presidents of the NUM had ?
I’m not championing privileges for the top jobs but I’ll stivk up for those that get called for having them whilst others are not .

Big respect to you there, UTC for a life of hard work in a very difficult environment. I have heard family and friends say, like you that Scargill did great work in terms of individual cases and in improving conditions and engineering better outcomes for mineworkers.

In a very non-confrontational spirit though, is there not a bit of you that doesn't think that with a bit more compromise and a smarter, less all-out war kind of approach, he might have done better for his industry?

Well I'm all for preventing those who get to the top being able to suck from those still down below the means by which they enjoy a decent life.

There's a pot. And it should be spread out as fairly as possible.

And if you read my post it was praising Scargill for the work that he did as president of the York’s/national NUM which improved the miners lot tremendously as UPTC elequently scribed.
Your posts could implement almost anyone who ever did anything for the public good MPs charity workers etc as I said I wasn’t championing any privileges they are lavished upon just acknowledging the good he did for miners which I saw first hand as opposed to others in his position who took the privileges and did almost nothing.

I don't object to people who have done their bit getting their entitlement.

I object to those who grubby around thereafter challenging entitlements to things they no longer need, and ignoring the common good they stood for.

theres thousands on the list for you to go at that haven’t done a hundredth of good that scargills done .
Just take a look round the House of Lords to start with ,they’re privileges outweigh scargills by hundreds of thousands but don’t get a mention.
There’s chief executives on town councils with more privileges than the ex NATIONAL PRESIDENT of the NUM .
Most derogatory or accusatory remarks about Scargoll are unfounded and unproven as court case after court have proven . Even Thatchers state bullies couldn’t pin anything on him other than slander and trying to turn public opinion against him because they had nothing else. Clearly this has worked in some quarters because I can think of hundreds with privileges that far outweigh any that Scargill might have had bestowed upon him for doing absolute zilch for workers or for that matter anyone .
The Sun and the Mail and itv are doing their damndest but still it lets the real scavengers thrive unnoticed by throwing them scapegoats

Orsen, Scargill did all he could to stop the 1984 strike happening in the first place but Thatcher was he'll bent in beating the miners into the ground she would not listen to any sort of reason in fact she paid for an American to come over to confront Scargill and the NUM , his name was McGregor, Orsen I'll leave it at that for now pall, but one of these days I'll tell you
some tails of what I did in the strike and what really happened.
