personally id like to see if the academy has paid for itself ...I doubt it very much we seam to get lads coming through at what finnancial cost I don't know then they disappear into the abiss of lower league football never to be heard of again. If we were grooming them for a career with us then fine but how much have we made (

9M on Andre Gray. 5M for our whole squad.

    You have to spend.

They spent £750k the season they got promoted in 2014.

They pretty much only spent money on Andre Grey when they got promoted again two years ago. Granted that was nearly £10 million, but they had all the Premier League parachute money then.

I'd like to follow that model.

I can honestly understand both sides of this argument. There is nothing wrong with wanting the clubs mega rich owners to spend some money, and can also see why people would understand that may not be the way they work.

Trouble is, we could easily go out and sign 4 or 5 players at £20k, £30k, 40K and above like Wolves have. But being in the position we are in, the stature of the club and the fact we haven't got a "Super Agent" placing players with us, £30k wouldn't get us the same quality of player that Wolves or Villa(for example) would get for the same money...

Technically I guess we can afford to go out and buy a £15 million striker and pay him the 30k a week he's currently earning.
Finding one who would come here at the moment is nigh on impossible even if we were so minded to try.

Incredibly harsh on the last owners and doesn't take in to account our progress and the situation we found ourselves in. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but there's nothing to say a Chinese owner would have stopped Hourihane leaving for £30k a week.

if they matched his wages he wouldn't leave.

Same with all who have left. Players want money and to progress up the league ladder. It's why Leeds lost Taylor & Wood to Burnley and Cook to Bournemouth.

am I a bit thick but I thought that new investors would like to see the club flourish not sink like a stone .Lets faceit thease guys don't invest in football just for fun they want to make money and lots of it surely they saw us as a sinking ship with potential that had to be saved ...seems like so far the only people to benefit from an investment is mr crine ..bless him. are we any better off than we were 6 months ago

The academy costs a million a year, both Stones and Bree have covered that cost since its inception and paid on for another 5-6 years.
You can add to that Butterfield, Jon Parkin (who would surely have made more appearances and/or made us more money if he hadn't been treated so badly by that T****R who was in charge), Antony Kay and countless others who've made a contribution to the team.

We are investing. We've just signed two players and more to follow. You're asking for an over-investment beyond what most sane fans would expect.

Because constant asset stripping of the playing staff isn't sustainable in the long term as we're seeing now.

    This, a thousand times!

To us mere mortals, playing for Barnsley Football Club would be a dream come true. But to the majority of talented(and average to be fair) players, the club is tinpot and it would take a kings ransom to get them to even consider joining...

Anyone would think we're cut adrift at the bottom of the league destined for relegation.

The situation we faced last season with contracts and players was an outlier. Massively over achieved and rightly, in my opinion, didn't gamble with the future of the club. It wasn't asset stripping per say.

How did we afford to keep the Academy open during some of the years since it's inception? Through donations from the owner. Without him, there wouldn't have been a Stones, Holgate or Bree.

So we lose a league game away to Aston Villa, who will be up competing for the top two at season’s end, and we are doomed?

A game in which we had a very weak midfield for various reasons, which led to a tactical change in formation which appeared not to work.

Second half we competed much better; we have both Gardner and Williams to return and have another eleven days to make signings, which we will. Hecky got it wrong today - his hand was forced a little, but still, it appears he did.

He gets a lot more right than wrong though, be very careful about the noises you make. We could end up with any generic nomad of a ***** manager in no time at all.

    Calm the **** down.

And I assume those wanting the owners to spunk stupid money are too young to remember what happened 15/16 years ago? Grow up, put your toys back in the pram and find a lady who will let you touch her

    Are you joking?

Players don't come to Barnsley because we can't afford their wages and we are lower in the table than other clubs interested in them. It's as simple as that.

Forest fans and others who live on past glories may get off to city attendances but logical footballers don't think like that.

As I mentioned before Leeds had their best players leave for 'smaller' clubs than us.

I think you will find that we can actually quite easily count the others who have made a contribution to the team.

Because there have been so few.
