For me, Rammell was a much better all round player. Brought other players into the game, ran tirelessly, was an absolute nuisance for defenders, and decent in the air despite not being the tallest. I'd have Rammell over Bradshaw all day long. If anyone is daft enough to make an offer in excess of 3 million for Bradshaw, I'd snap their hands off. I genuinely don't think his all round game is good enough at this level, and don't buy the view that he would score loads more goals in a better side. Not at this level anyway. I don't take any pleasure in writing this. I genuinely and desperately wanted (and still want) Tom Bradshaw to do well for us, but I'm coming to the conclusion that we need better.
I do rate Bradshaw and think he could flourish with a good striker alongside him but if the choice was between him and Rammell I'd agree with you MT and Rammell would be in my team.
Rammell all day every day. A better team player. I like Tom but at Championship level he struggles to fit into a team pattern or impose himself. Imo.
I'm coming to the conclusion that he won't. He doesn't seem to offer much of an outlet, nor does he manage to hold the ball up particularly well, leading to the ball coming straight back at us when we've cleared it. Obviously there is an issue with service and support, but I'm comparing him with Rammell, who was also an honest Barnsley striker of average ability, and in my mind's eye at least, Rammell seems to be the more effective footballer. Maybe it's the rose tinted glasses at work!
Strange post? One played for us nearly 30 years ago in a totally different era and isn’t in the slightest comparable with Bradshaw save the only one they are attackers.
Actually I get it now! It’s a set up so every poster can tell us what’s wrong with Bradshaw... well done MT you’ve cracked a good one for em all tonight.
Like his work rate and approach to the game. He's a hard working professional. He's not without his attributes, he can score goals in this league, but I don't think he converts enough of the chances he gets, I don't think he creates enough space for himself and is easily marked, and I think he gives the ball away too often. But I don't feel good about that criticism because he gives it his all and he's better than many others in the team.
Definitely not rose tinted glasses; Rammell certainly wasn't as good as Hirst, Ward, Shipperley or Currie but he had the attributes that you highlighted above which made him effective if not prolific. I dare say that had we had the internet back in Rambo's day he'd have undergone the same kind of scrutiny that Tom gets.
I’m beginning to think I’m in the minority on here but I believe that Bradshaw will “come good” and score goals at this level for us. Now he’s got someone up top next to him (or at least he should have) he won’t have to work so tirelessly on his own and therefore he’ll be able to exert more energy with the ball. If we get the ball to him in the box he’ll score. And if we go down there’s no doubt in my mind he’ll be looked at by championship teams (hence why he’s rumoured ti he linked with championship clubs now).
Hope you're right. The way he conducts himself makes him very likeable. Would love for him to hit a rich vein of form.
Rambo for me.. But Bradshaw is the best striker at the club, by a country mile at present, like it or not
I hope I’m right too, it’s not very often though! Hopefully him and Moore can develop a good “big man/little man” partnership together. With Thiam coming on as an impact sub.
Bradshaw's biggest let down is a poor first touch. The 3rd Villa goal originally came from him giving the ball away under no pressure after a shocking first touch. Good league one striker but not a Championship footballer for me.
I think that they're comparable in their work rate, goalscoring ratio (I'm guessing it's similar) and their overall footballing ability. It's definitely not my intention to set people up to have a pop at Bradshaw, or any of our other players for that matter. I'm genuinely interested in which one our fans would rate as the more effective player and why. As other posters on here have stated, Tom Bradshaw comes across as an honest pro and an all round good egg. I'd love nothing more than for him to prove my doubts wrong, strike up a productive partnership with Kieffer Moore, and finish the season on at least 16 goals.
Mate and me were on about him before game today. He's a fan, I'm not. We both agreed that he works very hard, and when he came off for Moore last week we dropped back initially because Bradshaw does keep defenders on their toes. We agreed that heading isn't his thing and neither is shooting cleanly from any kind of distance. He mentioned on the way home exactly what you have just said about poor control and the ball bouncing off him. We both agree that he deserves a run with Moore beside him, but where I differ is that regardless of who he has with him, he still needs to be close to goal to score. OK, maybe headings not his thing, but he's been here a season and half now and his shooting hasn't improved in that time.
Rammell was great at heading over the bar. His movement was world class, sadly his finishing was bang average. Hard to compare him & Bradshaw. Different types of player.
