Keeping clean sheets is the mark of playing well as a keeper. Because you troll him having moved on from your last target even when he does well you look to criticise. Back to ignore I think.
I agree that we need a keeper to challenge for the first team. And if they are better than Adam then great, they can play until they dip and then Davies can come in. What I’m a bit unsure about is why you think Eastwood will be any better - everything I’ve managed to dig up about him is that he’s a good shot stopper at League 1 level but can’t command his area and weak at crosses. Will give any new signing a chance. But certainly sounds like we’re still scraping the barrel with League 1 punts and overseas punts. Not one signing, or player we’ve been linked to, has got me remotely confident these new boys will inject the level of quality into the squad that Hecky needs. Guess we’ll all have to wait and see.
My lad's been at Oxford v Bury today, distinctly unimpressed by Eastwood - comment was "All them whingeing about Davies and lauding Eastwood need to be careful what they wish for - he doesn't dominate at all, Bury scored from long throw into his six yard box and a long ball which he's rooted to his line for." Oxford fan he's with says that he was even worse at Walsall last week and gifted them their winner.
If the club didn’t think he was better than Davies I don’t believe they’d be trying to sign him. The majority of Oxford fans rave about him. I’ll judge him when I’ve seen him play. Davies needs dropping though, any other player with his form would have been dropped long ago. He’s doing the bare minimum right at the minute so unless the next keeper starts costing us a goal every game it can’t be any worse.
My Oxford supporting mates reckon he is up and down they are pretty surprised that any club further up the pyramid are interested. Just seen the first goal Oxford let in. Now that was poor keeping.
I’ve not disagreed with you about us needing a new keeper. In my opinion to give Davies a break. He’s a good keeper at this level but needs a short break. I massively disagree that we won’t sign players worse than we have. Moore - ok but telling we were the only championship club interested. Hope he improves. Pinillos - let go by forest. And he’ll be replacing Yiadom who on form is one of the best defenders in the championship. Eastwood - L1 shot stopper. And then any 1 or these spreadsheet signings from Mongolia, Moldova or wherever else they’ve got 7 assists in 8 games or whatever looks good on paper. As Hecky has stated multiple times. It takes a month to get players up to speed. Far longer if they come from abroad. So it seems absolutely crackers to me that we are looking to bring in a bunch of completely unknown foreign players to join a relegation dog fight. I’ll give it credit if it works. Going to be a long 5 months to find out.
I reckon if Adam ever looks on here and reads what a good number of his own fans say about him that will be more than enough to batter his confidence. He's having a bad patch of form but still reckon he's saved us more points than he's lost us this season.
I can’t get my head around this Davies love in. Absolutely reeks of rose tinted glasses. If anyone seriously thinks that Davies doesn’t need competition and doesn’t think that the club need to sign a viable alternative then this is very much head in the sand stuff. Nightmare.
There's no guarantee that any addition to the squad will prove a hit. To be fair to Hecky I appreciate he means players who are match-fit at the pace and level of the Championship. We certainly could do with a bit of invention in centre-mid and someone who knows where the goal is.
I know there’s no guarantee. I said I don’t think the club would be signing him in they didn’t think he was better.
By all means bring some competition in for him - let's face it we need that in all positions - I just don't think he's the walking calamity that some are making out.
Agreed that Davies has had a confidence knock but please look at the bigger picture. A spanking new defence in front of him that gets changed on a regular basis over a prolonged period of time. He won't know what each player is capable of doing, he hasn't known their characters, he hasn't known who he can rely on to do what and we can't keep the ball in the opposing half for more than 5 passes. As a lot of you who've played the game will know trust and confidence in your team mates is absolutely vital and so it's make no wonder the lads been on edge.
This Davies confidence knock that people refer to has cost us points for a full calendar year. Today isn’t an isolated incident.
I’m baffled at how deluded people are over it. There’s this consensus that if we sign a keeper, who definitely won’t be better than Davies (as we cant afford one) but is better than Townsend, then Davies will suddenly be pushed harder and return to form. They talk about it like it’s that simple. Like it’s football manager or something. Basically with their logic they’re also admitting Davies is tossing it off because he knows he can get away with it whilst Townsend is back up. But as soon as we get better back up Davies will be fantastic again. It’s okay for Davies to toss it off though and not train hard.. because he’s not Moncur or Potts.
The vast majority of keepers are excellent shot stoppers . When u move up the leagues u have to be able to distribute the ball .command your area and be decicive .. Davies has never been anything other than a shot stopper .he' s cost us a lot of goals this year and last year too. And as I said all keepers at this level have to be good shop stores. The defence for the last year are extremely nervous as the don't know what he's likely to do..not good no matter which end of the league your at ...he needs to be replaced very quickly...inc as captain .
