In another thread some one said Hourihane is "one of the best players we've ever had" and then another comment was "he was the Glavin, Redders and Hignett of his generation".

I'm not wearing that! Surely I'm not the only one that thinks he was decent...nowt more, nowt less!

Given this advances in physicality in the modern game he is up there with the best we have ever had. Discounting Hignett who was a number 10 not a midfielder I’d put him as the 3rd best midfielder I have seen at Oakwell Not as good as Redfearn or Glavin But not far behind either.

He's the third-best player we've had in my 23 years of watching.

    I ******* love him.

You had to see Glavin to realise just how good he was. In my opinion Redders was voted as best ever because most who watched Glavin are the older generation who wouldn't use Twitter etc... and didn't cast a vote. Redfearn was a brilliant player, one of the best I've seen and my second choice but Glavin was head and shoulders out there on his own.

Hignett id agree was a number 10, very skilful and I wish he'd stayed longer.

Hourihane for me fourth on that list.

They've said he was the Glavin, Redfearn or Hignett 'of his generation', not that he was better than them. If you don't think it was him, then which player would you argue was their equivalent 'of his generation?'

If I had to select a best-ever Reds midfield from my 37 years of following it would be King Ronnie, Redders and Conor.

He was, strangely enough, one more player who started off without distinction, but grew towards indelible remembrance.

He wasn't here long enough to leave the same imprint that Ronnie and Redders did.

Given the chance, and contrary to my own pathetic initial belief, I think he would have.

But football these days prevents these things.

I’m only mid 20s but he’s definitely up there with the best I’ve seen. To watch him grow as a player and become our captain leading us to a cup final win and through the play offs, was pretty magical. Especially considering a lot of the time I’ve been a season ticket holder we’ve been a struggling championship side.

Need to move on from him now though as we’ll never see him in a reds shirt again. Hope he gets to the premier league though one day.

By all accounts Ian Banks V.1 was up there. Unfortunately, I only got to see V.2, which had inexplicably been loaded with a ton of bloatware.

And Stuart Gray was about as good now I’ve thought about it. Completely underrated player.

Also Ian Banks was never afraid to bang a shot from distance. That lad had one of the hardest kicks I have seen at Barnsley.Ronnie Glavin could dance past players, and Higgy was a sublime player.Aylott and Parker were in my opinion the two best forwards who played together at the club until Parker got injured at the fowls match.Good days. And while I am on,can anyone remember the cup game in the sixties at oakwell where the schools got half a day off so we could go to the match and people were on top of wall,up pylons and anywhere watching.I am at that age where I forget things but what a game and what an atmosphere.

Was just about to mention him. And he's the player Conor most reminds me of. They both made the game look easy. Control the ball, pass it to one of our players. And do it like it's the easiest thing in the world.

I wish someone could put together a really good compilation of Ronnie. I watched the footage of the Middlesbrough game posted last week. First minute of that there's a 50 yard run by Ronnie that was sublime.
As others have said, in 50 years watching you'd probably pick a midfield four from Glavin, Banks, Redfearn, Hignett and Hourihane. But Ronnie was by far the best.

Yes, Stuart Gray was one of the best midfield players we've had. The type graced with a certain finesse and intelligence that always made me think he was playing in the wrong league.

No I'm not having it either. Nowhere near King Ronnie or redders.

A couple of names to throw in the hat, to compare with Connor. Brian Howard could always make something happen and had a good eye for goal. Anderson da silva was sublime to watch pre-injury

Leicester 1961 I was there we had threatened to go on strike, at Broadway, unti they "relented" at dinnertime and said they were always going to give us it off. Mad dash then for 2-15 kick off. Second highest crowd in the club's history.
