So what the coach says is probably true, West Africans have the most speed, East Africans the most stamina and white Europeans having less speed than West Africans but more stamina (although less stamina than East Africans).

Although "blacks" covers east Africans as well, so he was actually wrong and needed to be more specific.

Shame he's retired, although probably for the best. Hammering steroids and pulling planes can't be good for the heart.

Yes it is and obviously not true as already said the best long distance runners are geneally Africans, the best sprinters are Jamaicans. Over the years the best boxers have been "black" Ali; tyson, hagler,Benn, Lewis ect. I'd say football is more even but two our better players at the minute aŕe Andy yiadom (black) ethan pinnock (mixed race) so the argument the have poor stamina is untrue and just sounds racist.

Yes, not a long term career.

He drank 20 litres of Lucozade before lifting half a ton! He then fainted and went temporarily blind.

Half a ton though, that's like the Incredible Hulk but for real.

We haven't even mentioned penis size.

Average for blacks is 7", whites 6" and Asians 5", so that's true as well.

All well and good saying all races are the same but doesn't stand up to any scientific scrutiny.

Are those results from your own research?

So you think it is that simple and nothing whatsoever do with genetic make up?

So are we saying that all races are physically and mentally exactly the same and the only thing that distinguishes us is our skin colour?

I always thought that was to do with altitude training. Same as Ethiopians being good runners. Doesn't explain why there's no tradition of good runners from Nepal, Ecuador though I guess. That said Bolivia are pretty difficult to beat at footy in La Paz but never do much anywhere else.

We're talking characteristics that may occur more often. It's not that all within a group have more/less stamina. There are loads of Kenyans who are terrible at running. Just as there are Europeans who are good at it. When specifically looking at marathon running, the difference is mostly notable at the very elite level where the tiniest of margins might make a difference. And there's genetics, but also environment, opportunity, etc.

So coming back to the original point and why this whole thread was even started, at the football level, you can't just say that all black people run out of stamina after 60/70 minutes. The differences that might be observed between the groups are minute. There are plenty of black people who can keep up for the full 90 minutes. Just as there are plenty of whites or Asians or whatever who can keep it up. When you keep finding bad examples in your path, either you're suffering from confirmation bias, or you need to improve your selection based on actual performance. Basing recruitment on race is just ridiculous.

There may be slight differences in genetic make up on an average basis but it will never apply to every single person so I'd rather treat each person as someone in their own right. There will be tons of Kenyans who are hopeless at long distance running so I'm not going to start presuming every Kenyan can run a marathon. Genetics may play a part but so may a ton of other things such as funding, lack of opportunities etc. as already mentioned.

The vast majority of Kenya's brightest running stars were born and raised at high altitude. Running at higher elevations builds greater lung capacity, because athletes grow accustomed to the thinner air. This enables greater stamina over distance simply because they can deliver more oxygen to the blood and so to the muscles.

It is like Sherpas men and women in the Himalayas carry equipment up and down when assisting mountaineers climbing places like Everest K2 etc. They have incredible stamina and ability to carry loads up inclines where some experienced mountaineers can only just manage to carry themselves, again because they are born to it.and have adapted.

If you accept that people can have different skin colours and hair types, surely it would be logical to assume there would be other genetic differences. For example, the average Austrian male is just under 5 11", while the average male from Bahrain is 5 5". What do you put that down to? Or is it racist to say Austrian men are taller than men from Bahrain?

    Sounds racist to me
Saying that, Mamadou Thiam ran out of stamina after 2 minutes, but he's just a fat lazy waste of space, nowt to do with his skin colour

Again, whilst that may be true as an average there will be Austrian men who are way taller or smaller than that, same for men from Bahrain. It was be stupid to assume that every man from those countries is one set height, just as it would be stupid to not sign black players because their stamina supposedly runs out after 60-70 minutes when it quite clearly doesn't for a lot of black players. Stating a fact is fine (e.g. saying that on average Austrian men are taller than men from Bahrain), not employing any men from Bahrain for jobs that require you to be tall based on that average, despite the fact that there is a 6ft Bahrainian man in front of you, would be stupid.

There will be small Austrians and tall Bahranians.

    You are quoting average height.

My theory (see my post earlier in the thread) is many Black Americans descended from slaves may have benefited as a group from unwitting eugenics making them genetically physically superior to the equivalent group of whites descended from European migrants into America.

Counter to this, genetic defects can also occur as, someone has already pointed out, there are 'race ' differences e.g. Sickle cell disease is more common in certain ethnic groups, including: People of African descent, including African-Americans (among whom 1 in 12 carries a sickle cell gene); Hispanic-Americans from Central and South America; People of Middle Eastern, Asian, Indian, and Mediterranean descent. Because sickle cell ...
The Egyptian Pharaohs had bulging eyes apparently, as well as other genetic defects due to the common practice of marrying family members cousins marrying, brothers and sister etc (inbreeding)..although there is no evidence that Cleopatra, for example, displayed that trait. European royal houses for centuries kept marriages in a tight knit group, again leading to a reduced gene pool resulting in genetic defects. Whilst this is not 'race related' it does explain how, going back millennia, distinct small tribes separated by vast distances starting out may have, through the limited gene pool,,developed genetic defects that perpetuated through the generations and became inherent in that resulting 'race'. Like animals and plants, diversity in human evolution reduces, even if it does not eliminate it altogether, the risk of genetic defects developing.
