heard some conspiracy stories this week haven't we, one lad on Ipswich forum now reckons Mick sold Kieffer Moore to us because he knew he would be coming as gaffer!

This "fear of failing at Barnsley" is just nonsense though. He's big enough and old enough to take another failure in his stride - it wouldn't be his first - so that argument holds NO water for me.

His appointment would be universally popular and might just prove to be an enormous success. As others have said, come and be our manager Mick - make this your last posting and then take up golf full time or stay on as a director or something.

Timings never been right in the past for him to give serious thought to becoming manager. I think now's the time, it makes sense for both parties. Mick's last job and Ipswich fans wanting a change. He keeps us up and builds a team for the new owners. You know what you are gonna get, players will be in his image, hard working and honest. If you want to sell season tickets that's what folk want to see, a team trying hard and working to a plan.

If you take away his legend status, appointing him still makes sense. I miss the days of us sitting safely in mid-table beating teams in the top 6 at Oakwell and occasionally flirting with the play-offs. You can keep your Wembley visits, nowt wrong with being 9th-14th place in the second tier.

Could "The Next Manager" possibly be Adam Hammill with M Mac as DOF? Signed him from us for Wolves remember!

Masses of experience in the game, it's a relative no-brainer for me in terms of making a decision to approach him. Ipswich might jump at Grayson given Mick might not be there next season anyway, so they might not object to him leaving. Plus they're safe mid-table so changing manager at this point might not be something they're against.

Question is, does he want to do the job given what he's said previously?

We can but hope. I'm usually not one for sentimental decision making, but this would not be based on sentiment. The board have spoken about building the identity of the club & Mick is exactly the person to put bums on seats, sell merchandise, etc & he has a very successful proven track record. If they did pull this off they would be convincing me they really mean business.

Can you imagine the roar of Approval at Oakwell at his first match if Mick was to become as our Manager--it would be fantastic for him (I think!) and brilliant for the Club. I as a fan since 1958 would love this to happen.

He is one of the only people the club could appoint that would truly unite the fan base*

*except Hemmy. He will want Chelsea's U7's manager....

I'd be happy to be wrong but I don't think he will come. The club seem to want a coach, not a manager. I'm not sure Mick would like the hands off approach. Unless of course they change tack. And of course he's apparently said no before and said he wouldn't take it. Again, happy to be wrong but I think the short odds are just people wishing he'd come here and sticking money on it.

If there is a God please let it be Mick , the hairs on the back of my neck would stand on end if the great man walked down that tunnel to rapturous applause and the anthem time rider ringing in my ears.PPPPPPPPPLLLLLLEEEEAAAASSEEEE make it happen.

Think you are right, but I'm hopeful that the timing may be better this time, with Ipswich safe & him already out of contract in the summer.
If Ipswich fancy Monk or Grayson that may make the move easier. It's all speculation.

Agree Mick is likely to want to be able to over-rule the spreadsheet & to have some scope to bring players in.
A combination of the two strikes me the pragmatic approach. The signing of Mills hints that this may not be out of the question.

I think the spreadsheet is overhyped. While it may work to identify players, the final decision is down to the manager. I don't think it would be difficult for Mick to work within that system.

Wow just think of Mick Mac finally coming home, and walking out of the tunnel and onto the pitch for a massive 6 pointer, and the himan & her belting out of the speakers (could he get Pete Waterman & Michela Strachan to walk out with him to that music). :D
It really does raise the interest and excitement levels while its still a possibility.

The breadth of experience we could benefit from would be unbelievable if we did appoint Mick Mac
and his team. He would personally be able to mentor our defenders whilst his assistant is Leeds lad
Terry Connor who played in excess of three hundred and fifty league games as a striker for several
teams would work well with our strikers. The dream ticket would be complete if Matt Murray was given the role of goalkeeping coach and if the current Ipswich fitness coach our very own old boy Andy Liddell were to make the move as well.
    Bring it on.
