Gave it away at least 5 times today, really simple passes. Thought he was poor. 4/10.

Can’t remember him giving any simple passes away 1-2 if that as I say look at the stats highest pass completion in the team and most passes completed on the pitch that doesn’t sound like a 4/10 to me mate but it’s your opinion fair enough

    I can remember it.

I’d expect him to complete the most passes for us in every game. He’s the one that picks it up from the the defence. A high pass completion isn’t difficult when most are 3-10 yard side ways passes.

When he starts pinging it like Hourihane and hitting the target those stats might become more valuable.

I agree with Chris. His pass completion should be highest as he gets the job of recieving passes and tapping them to unmarked defenders. That isn't a criticism of him but it's the truth, players in his position SHOULD complete most of the passes as they do the simple passes most of the time.
With that in mind he did give away some truly awful ones today as did gardner

I’m talking about today. Nothing to do with previous.

    Passing was sloppy.

They controlled the midfield defensively very well but in my opinion they offered and indeed offer very little going forward.

The passes were poor at times but they weren't alone, Lindsay has a shocking pass on him 50% of the time for example.

I thought we played very well today, each and every player. That doesn't mean it was perfect though

I agree mate but I think with our front 4 created a lot today just about that final pass or finish but it will come especially with mcburnie in plenty to improve but I’m confident in the next 3 games that we can get 3 wins out of them but I would take 7 points no less than that

Very harsh on Williams. Not saying he was man of the match or anything, but always wanted the ball, always driving forward, drawing their players. Gives the ball away too much but did ok, 4 way too harsh.

I'm always intrigued to see how others see the game.

In my opinion the Wednesday midfield were petrified of Williams' work rate. Every time they had possession centrally and he closed them down the panicked and gave the ball away. I agree he gave the ball away needlessly a couple of times, but that was about 10x less than Gardner who I'm convinced 2nd touch is nearly always a tackle. Couldn't trap a bag of sand that lad.

Now here is the contentious one from me, hammill. I love him. He's been an amazing servant and his work rate is at times spectacular but yesterday he was trying too hard to be a hero. He needs to realise at times there are 10 others in the same shirt trying to win the match and he doesn't have to do it all himself. We're not even talking about penalty or no penalty (neither were for me but if one is both are) if he lays a simple 5 yard ball to a completely unmarked and screaming mcburnie. It isn't the first time this season and won't be the last unfortunately.

I thought Williams grew into the game as it wore on. I expected him to have another one of his shocking performances where he kept giving possession away.

His positional sense and reading of the game is actually better than people make out. I’m not usually his biggest fan but he impressed me yesterday. I think he was one of the only few to take the ball from lucas joao too

Right about him and Gardner though, can’t play together in that formation.

451 for me with mcburnie up top. He’s suited to that role and mallan back in

Agree with most of theses ratings,RAC, apart from Williams. 4 is way too low, but it wasn't one of his better games.
Was thinking 6.5 would be reasonable, but then twigged you were giving Townsend 7 for circumstances (can't remember him making a save).
As Williams was motivated to sign because of Hecky (it's well documented), I thought he gave his best and grew into the game. Great character from Joe and worthy of a 7.

I get frustrated with the amount of times he gives the ball back to the opposition. He’s been doing it since preseason. I wouldn’t mind if he was trying the killer ball and it wasn’t coming off but yesterday 5+ simple passes straight to a Wednesday player.

Then I'm sorry, Chris, but it comes across that you don't like him and focus on the negatives.
The pre season comment beggars belief because he was the one and only positive that came from the drubbing at Rotherham. That was his debut and he got stuck in, made great runs, crunching tackles and was head & shoulders above any other player on our team.
So I guess I can't be objective either as I'm a big fan of his :):)

My only problem with Gardner and Williams is that one should be one the pitch and one on the bench. At 80 minutes they both looked worn out, and the only replacement options were CAMs. Play a CDM and a CAM and you have direct replacement options available on the bench for both positions.

At the point where we, as the home side, should have been on the front foot, it was the opposition who looked most like nicking it, and IMHO that was largely because our midfield were too tired to be effective.
