He came in as a guest when we showed that U17 World Cup Final back in October. Really nice fella - knows his onions. Would he do a job? Who knows?? Wilson came in as an unknown, with no experience.....Hecky stepped up, again with no full team managerial experience, and that was pretty good for 12 months. Sometimes you just have to take a punt.
Difference between both your examples and coming in with only a few months to keep our championship status. If it was the summer I'd agree but this isn't the time for a "punt". I'm sure some of you have forgotten how ***** L1 was. I personally want to see the club do all it can to retain our championship status.
I know it’s only kids football, but the style of football he had the U20’s playing in the World Cup was very impressive. He’s not someone I’d want us to go for though, think were in dire need for someone with experience.
Surely this guy would fit the mould completely? In all likelihood we're looking more for a head coach than a manager whether that's popular with the fan base of not. He's got experience of coaching at the top level in terms of Premier League players, he's currently doing an outstanding job with the U20's. With our young squad surely he'd have to be at least considered. In terms of the experienced manager that lots seem to be clamouring for who realistically should we be targeting? Mick McCarthy has said numerous times he doesn't want the job so rule him out, Grayson has just signed on the dotted line at Bradford. Who is out there that people actually want that's obtainable?
Find me a recent quote about this particular vacancy where he wasn't actually coquettish or mentioned he'd not been approached? Personally think he'd go for it on the right terms.
MI k wld be my first choice but no chance he will come. I do like the idea of simpson. Good work ethic. Knows his stuff. Well connected. Some league success. It would be a brave appointment and risky. But worth considering
I agree. If we are looking for a head coach then surely its his coaching skills and expertise that matter most. On that basis he would seem to have a very good CV to work with our young players.
I think he would if Ipswich co-operate, but if their owner wants to keep him & offer him a new contract, no chance.
Whoever we get has a task to keep us up experienced or not unfortunately where we are is the cumulation of bad results previously I still got a feeling we will scrape survival somehow!
Why are you ignoring his achievements of getting Carlisle promoted back to the FL, having Preston top of the Championship, and taking Shrewsbury to a play off final?
Would be a good match for The Plan with decent contacts in the game and some experience at Championship level.
Simpson would seem to be a sensible choice but I would like a big name, I don't want us to be little barnsley or to make do or to train someone up and give them experience and be a stepping stone to someone else. We have billionaire owners for once in our history pay for a good Un.
I see many posts on here stating that we need a big name with championship experience to take up our vacancy. Can someone please give me an example of such a person who is available. Lets be honest we are not going to get big Mick from Ipswitch neither are we likely to entice a good championship manager who is currentley in post. Therefore, this means trying to recruit someone who does not have a job due to failing at their previous club. We are a club with a young team who want to develop our acadamy to further our progress on the field. In order to fullfil this aim I think we need someone who has a proven record and expertise in this particular area. Surely we need a manager who is going to be here for the longterm (whatever that is in football) rather than here today gone tomorrow. I keep hearing people talk about the new owners splashing out the cash. This is not going to happen. I am sure they will invest but not crazy amounts of money. Good business sense is about sustanability not 'quick fixes'. I believe we are going through a period of transition there will be good times and bad times. None of us want to see us get relegated however, this will now rely on us finding our form with the current squad of players. In my opiniun this will require good coaching rather than just managing. I think we need a young enthuiastic quality coach supported by a director of football. COYR.
Simpson was sacked on 4 January 2011 after a run of just three wins in 19 games - by Stockport County. That was his last club managerial position - otherwise he has managed mostly in the lower leagues and been dismissed from all of them at some point. U20 Manager? Well he will have had a talented bunch of youngsters to deal with. They obviously produced the goods. It's a name that does not speak of great ambition. Who knows? McCarthy's not coming (I don't want him in any case) The earlier quote about needing team (including assistant coach etc) is true. I don't think the FA will let the whole U20 coaching, medical and fitness staff come with him.
The more I read, the more I like. Very progressive, very highly thought of by people within the game, and by all accounts extremely popular with his players. All the jobs he was sacked from were either under very difficult circumstances, or appeared to be a knee-jerk reaction after a short bad run (Shrewsbury, Preston).
