I know we shouldn't read into anything we see in the press or at the bookies, but potentially up to four managers, all from the lower leagues have allegedly turned us down; two after having talks. Not saying they wouldn't have made decent managers/head coaches but bigger club, potentially huge resources, new owners, nothing to lose given our league position and time of the season, but we're still manager/head coach-less. The Burton game is looming and if GG was accurate in his statement, either there's been some jiggery-pokery going on behind the scenes or we are not the attractive proposition we all think we are. Like I said, probably all paper talk but concerning all the same me thinks.
No. For any young manager who has begun to build a reputation, we represent a clear and present danger of adding a relegation to their CV with our substandard squad. That was surely one of the reasons it was an easy decision for Hecky. I reckon that jeopardy is rather less for someone who has not yet stepped on to the full managerial ladder. That's why, having read about him, I've come to think Cameron Toshack would be the ideal appointment for us at this stage. With all the badges and bells, he surely knows Oli McBurnie as well as anyone in the country. And I think on Oli our survival hopes rest. If the worst happens, Cameron would be well placed to rebuild our team in the Summer, with reasonable assistance from the Board. That said, every time I nail my colours to a new manager at Oakwell the club does something else!
It’s Barnsley’s way of doing business. Messing about, taking time, asking loads, getting turned down by loads, publicly in the press, making it look like nobody in their right mind would be daft enough to take us on. Why not target one main man & go for him. This messing about is a joke. (I’m still unhappy that Ross turned us down!!!)
We are the architects of our own downfall, and we have been all season. Shoddy running of the club is going to see us relegated. This was our last chance to start turning things round and we are truly f***ing it up!
Or maybe its more of a case that the job description doesn't tie in with the expectations of the interviewee? Maybe they've heard we're got loads of money now and have asked at the interview about transfer funds and have been shown the reality of how the club is to be run and didn't fancy hard work? Who knows? Maybe they came in and said I want to employ all my own people, buy the players, make all transfer decisions and the club have said that's not how we do things here.
We've not offered it anyone to turn down yet. I think Ross knew he wasn't getting it and their supporters knew he had come down to talk to us, he let out a statement last night a few hours after it was becoming clear he wasn't the front runner to save face. He doesn't get a backlash off their supporters now and it looks like it was on his terms.
Not concerned wether they have or haven't. We are going to struggle in the championship, we will struggle next season if we stay up unless we recruit some better players. That's just the way it is, the head coach while obviously having a role to play won't change this in the long term.
