I've just been reminded of when Allan Clarke had Barnsley copying this. The team came out onto the pitch, went to the centre circle and waved to the crowd before the match. Has anyone got a photo?

Still makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up thinking about this ... it use to get right up the opposition noses...A statement we are Barnsley and know it....always worth a point lol would love to see it brought back

Yes but now we’ve got this stupid handshake line up so that means it couldn’t be done.

I remember when Clarkie got them doing that and it was a sign that special times were just starting. After the desperate years that preceded his arrival this truly was a GREAT time to be a Barnsley fan.

Here you go. Not the best quality I'm afraid.

Possibly the very first wave, as it was the first league match against Halifax in August 1978.

Edit, the first home game that season was Chesterfield in the League Cup which most likely featured the first "wave" so this was probably the second.

The other "Leeds thing" I never quite got was for a few years we used to belt out Marching on Together (we love you Reds,Reds, Reds).
Those were the days when all three sides used to sing most of the match.

That chant suddenly got shouted down by members of the old supporters club (now Courthouse) mid-nineties I think. "Shut up. That's a ******* Leeds song".

You have a better memory than me but I can't deny I would have been part of it - hate Leeds and hate that song

We were singing 'hi ho silver lining' circa 1982 during the League Cup run. Was it a Wolves and Wednesday song then?

I looks to me like (left to right)

Clarkie, Springett, McCarthy, Pugh, Joicey, Little, Millar, Peachey, Collins, Chambers, Riley and Saunders.

    Not sure about Collins though.

Chambers next to Peachey I think. Then Collins.

Good looking side that with Clarkie in midfield, or just behind the front two of Joicey and Peachey
