A guy with Jose's credentials should be crawling over broken glass to join either of those potential Champions' League winners shouldn't he?

To be honest, given that none of us had heard of him til a couple of hours ago, I doubt it.
Let's not get carried away. This guy has good credentials but has proved nothing yet in his career as a manager.

I don't think we have any non-risk choices. But that's down to us being in the relegation spots. At least it's someone with a reasonable amount of experience. And he's seen plenty at big clubs as well, which should help with us professionalising further. I think it's about the best they could've done within a realistic budget.

He's our Head Coach not the manager and given that Mourinho has taken him to three of the worlds top
Clubs , surely his coaching skills must be unquestionable aren't they.?
Over the past few weeks , with the greatest of respect, some of the negativity around the
Club, the team and now the appointment of this new coach is absolutely unbelievable.
Until it's absolutely impossible " mathematically" , that we don't have enough points to survive,
please, let's all get behind the board the team and this new coach.!

Look at Wolves manager, no one knew him when they appointed him.

I'm not having a downer on him. I'll fully get behind him and hope that he's the first step forward into a bright new future. Equally I'm not going to fly off the handle just yet. He's been at some massive clubs. Not one of them has any comprehension of a relegation dogfight. At Chelsea it seems his main role was scouting the opposition.
However, I trust the people doing the appointing to have a far better idea of his capability than I do.

What churton says. Hands up anyone who saw Yemen while he was manager...... Nope? Nobody? Ok... Al Shabab, anyone watched them closely while he was there? No, really? Well surely some must have followed his career with interest at Esperance?

The nutshell is we've zero idea what his ideas and methodologies are when translated from words to the pitch. I'm interested to see. Let's hope he can organise and we shape to a much more positive attacking style. But let's be fair, nobody has a clue how he'll do. Yes he's been part of a set up that has won the highest honours in Europe in some capacity. But on his own, he's not even managed a team I've even heard of, and that must go for just about all of us.

That's not being negative. Not one of us can claim to know what will happen next, good, bad or indifferent. I hope he succeeds, I hope we stay up, I hope the football is exciting to watch and the players are inspired and find confidence.

But let's not be super negative or super over the top. We're allowed to be patient, supportive and hopeful.

True, but hasn't he spent about 40 million this season?

I reckon there's a world of difference between watching opponents and being Mourinho's little beeeeatch while "coaching" the best players in the world and trying to get someone from League One to improve to Championship standards at Barnsley.

Agree.... think that has a slight bearing on it... Lets just see how we go over the next 5-6 games, and see how we perform, before getting too excited..

Glad I’m not the only one not to be hailing this to be the coup of the season.

Don’t get me wrong, José has my full support but he is unproven and would not have been my choice, particularly given our current predicament.

Some of the jubilation just seems a bit forced and overblown - not to mention premature.

Hear what you are saying but for my two penneth , if the club had set on the Cowleys or Jack Ross it would have been greeted with the lower league no ambition response , or if it had been someone from the out of work sacked managers club like Grayson or Mclaren , it would have been a chorus of " I"m underwhelmed " , & if it had been Harsley it would have been " the cheap option ", at least with this appointment , no one can accuse the club of not trying something different , it might not work out but at least it is positive & as a fan base we ought to be fully behind the new appointments
