Down in the mouth some of em. Is the default mindset of so many Barnsley folk to question absolutely everything?

Everyone's welcome to an opposing view but jeez. "If we don't get off to a winning start, it'll pull the club apart"

Give the bloke a chance. The last one turned out to be rubbish yet he was given the keys to the town hall.

I was the last caller on, I hope I injected a bit of humour.

no I said he needed to get Prozac or some other calming drug... he was manic. And it was a joke BTW. Had it been offensive then I am certain that Radio Sheff would have cut me off as they do so for far less.

It needed a bit of humour after the last 3 or 4 I heard.

It's like people like to get in their "I'm cautious" early so they've got something to follow up with "I told you so" at a later date.

New manager following one that won 6 in 30. **** second guessing what's going to happen. Welcome him with some positivity and get behind him and the lads.

Don't take this the wrong way but what did you say in your call? I heard you but can't remember anything you said apart from the Prozac and Europe in a couple of years parts.

It is no coincidence that! Barnsley was once a dynamic, prosperous town. I moved their in the mid 60s and have to admit , at first thought the place was dump (having been born in London, moved to Blackpool at the age of 7 and then to Barnsley age 13) Blackpool to Barnsley?? Yeah right.!! Left all my mates and my first sight of Barnsley was a cold grey damp November weekend having crossed the Pennines from a sunny Balckpool. Nevertheless I came to love the town and its rebellious nature and irreverant humour of the people . I even married a Barnsley lass .
Sadly the Barnsley I knew had the stuffing knocked out of it in the Thatcher years and the town and people I grew to love is long gone. Viewed from afar I find the attitude of many (including a fair few on this board) stuck in the past. They blame everything and anyone for anything wrong and are pessimistic and negative about any changes in the status quo. Brexit, Conservatives, Capitalism are all to blame. Viewing from afar it is sad to see. Barnsley had and still has a lot to offer if only (some) people stopped being so full of self pity and took a more proactive and optimistic approach to life.
