Must be the highest profile head coach we've had since Alan Clarke first came. Surely can't have been cheap to hire Jose and his staff, and another poster puts up a rumour that we've given him more than Hecky. Surely we haven't gone to that expense if there isn't an intention to back him in the Summer window? Could be exciting times, as RAC has said!

On another tack, it seems an awful lot of stars have suddenly aligned, considering the events of Hecky's departure and the arrival of the new team. Win-win all round? It certainly begins to look so.

Agreed but I think it's all going to depend on if we can stay in the championship or not.

I think if we manage to stay up we will see us spend money we have never spent before and possibly push at the right end of the table however if we get relegated I can see Jose leaving and basically starting from scratch.

Just hope Jose has enough in his locker to keep us in the division.

I hope so too, bfcted. But I just have a fallback vision of Jose becoming the League One equivalent of Nuno Espirito Santo for us next season if the worst happens!

The owners are obviously shrewd operators to have amassed their respective fortunes. I’m not normally one for conspiracy theories but it makes me wonder if Hecky was told to find himself another job.
The way it’s all panned out appears to be to everyone’s advantage. The only collateral damage is to Hecky’s reputation.

It does seem that hecky was not who the new owners wanted or trusted to take the club forward with their money. They knew to sack Hecky would have been a bad idea and would have caused a backlash off the fans especially with Patricks health at the time. The Leeds offer how ever it came about was perfect timing and maybe he was being guided in to taking the next oportunity that came along by the club.
The speed and set up of this appointment looks like it's been ready to go a while and the other interviews for the position were only done to follow a recruitment procedure. Maybe.

Time will tell, whoever the coach is the sign of ambition will be determined by the quality of player we bring in. Unfortunately we may be in league 1 next season.

Doesn’t seem like that to me. Seems to me that they were fully behind him, and were very disappointed when he ****** us off at the first sniff of interest.

In my opinion , no matter what happens the club have got to be commended for this appointment , if nothing else they are trying something different & should be applauded , if it fails at least they have taken a bold option & that in itself gives me hope for the long term

Even if we don't I would hope that good times are ahead. I would hope that they are just delayed by a year. I don't think these owners are going to p.iss off at the first sign of trouble. Getting relegated would be a very regrettable step backwards but it isn't sh.t or bust.

Last night I was talking to a coach/sport scientist who has worked with Jose.

He is Portuguese so the English isn’t quite correct.

But he said to me “He is a big coach that will win everything. He is special too”.

He seemed to have the upmost respect for our new head coach and was excited about what he will bring to Barnsley.

Let’s hope he delivers as those who know him expect.

If nothing else, from my standpoint yesterday's appointments appear to have slowed
down the stream of doom and gloom that was evident when Heckingbottom first defected.
Today's a good day. We don't have to worry because we haven't got a game.
Worst case scenario, we could drop a place if Sunderland win. That would put a lot of
pressure on Tuesdays game. It would help if Birmingham, Bolton, Sunderland and Burton
all lost today. That way, a win on Tuesday and a game in hand on our rivals could come in very handy.

I’m stil not that sure about GeeGee.
I’d like to know more about what happened with him and Hecky - but I’m sure this will come out at some point.

This thing about making Barnsley MORE INTERNATIONAL - what does that mean in the light of recent developments?
Because - I have my own theory - and it’s that this new manager was known by the owners last year during negotiations to buy the club.

No way whatsoever was the new manager going to be British.
Smoke and mirrors there by GeeGee I suspect.

And - I think GeeGee should talk to the media and thus us fans more - as what Mansford did.
But in saying that - GeeGee did well in the January transfer window.
And he’s done well to get this new coach in - because IMO that’s a massive plus to Barnsley.

There’s some fantastic things going to happen at Barnsley IMO - and no matter what Radio Sheffield and others say about the ownership not being related to the wealth of the football club (which I believe is a ridiculous statement) the appointment of this manager signals a real intent and a way forward.
So ........ the title of this thread can only be described as ludicrous.

If you go on radio Sheffield I player for last nights Football Heaven , GG does a great interview , well worth a listen , & I think you are totally wrong about the guy, he is one smart cookie & works tirelessly for the club , it appears we have hired a gem with him

I really don't understand why you think statements about the owners not being related to the wealth of the club is a ridiculous statement. Do you think there is a credit card on Chien Lee's account in the office safe?

Of course the fact that our owner measures his wealth in billions means we may reasonably expect that we may be able to compete a little better in the future. But it is no guarantee. Its his money not the clubs. No one at the club has direct access to his bank account. And there are not suddenly billions sat on reserves on the club's balance sheet.

Maybe yer right. I hope so.
My thoughts are that these January transfers were ones set up previously by Hecky and the team.

Litmus test for GeeGee will come this summer.
I’ll make a prediction here - if Leeds and Barnsley are in the Championship next season and they both go for the same player this summer - expect Barnsley to get him.

Can’t listen to interview on the radio cos internet poor - as posted earlier I’m around Chilika Lake.

If you and yer mate bought a veteran car for £100 - would you either:

    1) Spend a bit of money to change the gear box and refurbish the exterior and interior so the car runs and looks better?

    2) Sit and stare at the car parked on your drive?

Its a pity , because it really is an excellent interview, where GG comes across extremely well , he takes a light hearted view on how some of the candidates used the situation to further their own ends & refuses to take the bait from the interviewer , a good insight into the guy & you say you would like to hear more communication from him , well here is an opportunity to get a favourable impression
