Very exciting day for the players and for us fans in my view. We've now got a CEO and a Board with " vision" and judging from yesterday's recruitment , what appears to be a genuine desire to take us forward. I wonder how the players will react.? Do you think the fact they are being mentored by coaches with the experience of winning major silverware and " rubbing shoulders" with some of the Worlds best players will have an effect.? Only time will tell of course. Certainly gives us cause for some optimism. How is everyone feeling.? Enthused, cautious.? Can we stay up.? Certainly an interesting time to be a Red.!
Absolutely delighted with GG & the boards appointments on Thursday I suspect as they took training first thing Friday. Had my preference from the previous names floating around, but this appointment is such a breath of fresh air. What I really like is that this was completely off the radar, especially as they were even at last Saturday's match. I just hope that the players we have are capable of matching what I expect to be new higher standards. Can't wait to see how the first team sheet looks on Tuesday. Also nice that they have 5 days to prepare for their first match. Reasonable prep time for them to enforce their ideas!
Enthused? Yes. Certainly beats an uninspiring appointment of one of the many failed managers around looking for another go on the merry go round. It appears to have inspired the fans and a few days ago it looked like none of the names being bandied about were ever gonna do that. Quite a rabbit out of the bag in that respect. Cautious? Yes. We honestly don't know if it will work. He may be just an exotic name but with no great skill. I know little about him. He probably also sees us as a short term stepping stone. I am not holding out any great hope that if he does well he will stay here and continue to do well with us rather than someone else. He aint no Sean Dyche. Lets face it, when he was growing up he wouldn't have gone to bed dreaming of managing Barnsley. For now, I am interested, enthused and hope he blows the socks off this league in the time he is here. Any progress he makes is 1 step forward in our plan to move up in the world under the new owners. But I wouldn't give you very good odds on him still being here in the summer of 2019 having signed a new contract. Lets enjoy the ride.
I am in total agreement with you DSL Red.Having only signing an 18mths contract if they do really well next season you can guarantee that some twatting club somewhere in the world will want them then it will be back to square 1.
The more you build these guys up, the more stones you'll be wanting to throw at em if they don't come up to expectations.. This is very much a "stab in the dark" appointment. Hope it works out for everyone, mainly because I don't fancy the ale house league next season... Hope they have a bag of magic dust with em... Cos mates with "the special one" means nowt. until the loans in the summer, by then our fate will be well and truly sealed..
Agreed. Impressive CV as an assistant, but as yet hasn't proved himself at all at head coach level. I'll judge him on results with us, not the Club's he's previously worked at.
We do have billionaire owners now and if they want to keep him they have a better chance than previous owners. I think they just didn't want to keep hecky and Jose and his men have been lined up waiting for a while. It's doubtful Jose applied for the job, GG put him on the list and then included him in the interview process, I bet he was on the radar during the takeover I also believe that GG is a Chein Lee man and was appointed by cryne on the suggestion of the incoming owners. May be a conspiracy theory but GG does seem more suited to billionaire owners and Linton brown was more suited to skint owners and the reason brown will have left suddenly could have been more to do with Lee wanting GG in early and not that he cocked up the winnall transfer. Just a thought.
Interested to see the concerns regarding the number of clubs Jose has had and the length of time he spent in each role. Looks as though for ten years from 1999 to 2009 he moved around a few clubs getting the necessary experience to move on to bigger and better things. His career seemed to take off when he moved around to be Mourinho's Assistant starting at Inter Milan in 2010. The pair has three years together at Real Madrid, before leaving for Chelsea in 2013. For some reason he then went to Saudi to manage Al Shabab, before going back to Chelsea for the 2015-16 season. He had a spell at AEK Athens where apparently he had differences of opinion with the Board. In all , he's worked in nine Countries viz: Portugal, Sweden, Tunisia, Yemen, Germany, Saudi Arabia, England and Greece. To my mind that gives him an advantage in that he has experienced working with players of all nationalities and during the times he has worked in these different countries, he must have established some very useful contacts, that could well stand him in and us in good stead going forward.
My point really was that when a new consortium of billionaires buy a club then you would think the CEO they would want to trust their new club and money with would be their man and not the left over CEO from the previous regime. It may explain why brown was pushed out to make way for GG to come in who now appears to be a trusted member of the new owners group and not just an inspired hire by the last owner.
Not imo tbh Brown had only just taken the reins and hadn’t been in the role more than a few months and wouldn’t have got the gig if plans were in place
You probably right and I'm over thinking it with my conspiracy theory but it's all dropped in to place well GG, hecky leaving and Jose coming in. I wonder if Jose Morias has ever been on any other british clubs replacement manager / coach list if not the GG network is pretty wide with good contacts.
If that was the case surely we’d have set Ganaye on straight away not 5 months after Brown walked/was sacked
It seems that way but with Morais it’s a bit of a gamble but not a stab in the dark imo. It’s a journey that so far looks promising and hopefully the owners are as good as they sound . As long as we are competing and if we are destined to lose ,don’t lose games with a whimper . I personally think we’ll be ok and as long as the owners don’t start throwing unsustainable finances on a gamble as the Wendy’s have done allegedly I think were on a good period in our history imo.
It's the new owners french connection and how well he's linked in with the new set up, Linton sudden departure with no explanation, was Cryne connected enough to a make an appointment like GG and you would have thought new owners would have brought their own CEO in to run things. If not and GG was a Cryne inspired appointment I bet he loved it when he found out he was getting new billionaire bosses.
