Difficult time in his career, after leaving us he gone from a promotion and trophy winning side to 2 levels higher struggling premiership team west ham to an adapting relegated team with high expectations Middlesborough to Sunderland where Messi would struggle.
He needs to drop down to a side where he can play his football again without the intense scrutiny, if that means a pay cut so be it.

I'm guessing you were pissed with that response to Acido.

Don't get the obsession with some people to bring Fletcher in, yes he had a good season for us in league one but we all know how poor that division is compared to the champ.

1 goal in last 34 games - more than half of these playing in a lot better championship side than us begs the question what's gone wrong?

I'd only take him in if the fee was really small and his wages were small which is unlikely as Boro will wants some of the £6.5 million back they paid for him.

He's a gamble and I think based upon his form in the last 2 years the money it would take to acquire him it would be better spent elsewhere.

You make it sound like footballers think about what’s best for them

Completely agree. Not worth the risk hoping he will suddenly become a 20 goals a season player.

I don't think that is the case - he went to West Ham as he backed himself to play and being fair again they promised he'd be involved and then did not use him. the word from Man U was he was ahead of Rashford and hence was sent out on loan - then an injury crisis hit them and Rashford got picked and then you'd argue Fletcher's chance was gone there.

For me he needs to be back at a club where he can be trusted and developed and re-gain his confidence.

Obviously the jury is out on Ash, in my opinion if we were to bring him back it should only be as a loanee or free transfer. Certainly not worth spending serious money on. As others have already said, it could have been a one-off half season in a really good side in League One.

Where’s all these claims coming from about his attitude? Just making them up?

At the end of the day he’s a young kids with bags of potential who’s struggling for form & game time. Look at Harry Kane at a similar age, not all players hit it off straight away.

He’s still only a kid, plenty of time to come good. Could be many things affecting him, living away from home for the first time, personal problems etc.

I think they stem from the Sunderland fans' comments on their forum. Possibly with some "embellishments" on here.

That's definitely my take on things. Fair play to him for backing himself at a higher level. I certainly did after his performances for us once he settled in. I personally felt he looked like as complete a centre forward as we'd had since Shipperley, plus with age on his side. Certainly I thought he was a much better all round footballer than Winnall, who hasn't looked remotely out of place at Championship level.

Getting on for two years since he was here, a lot can change in a short time. See Dale Jennings.

Because it seems that you can’t just not rate a player, there has to be further factors to back your opinion.

In my humble opinion , sometimes a club fits a player, as is the case with Adam Hammil with us & I think if Hecky had managed to land him last summer I like to think he would have done o.k with us , obviously this is pure guess work but I am sure there is a talented player in there & obviously West Ham thought the same , hopefully his next career move will ignite that spark with him & despite all the stick he is getting now, I do not think many reds fans would have been disappointed if he had been here this year & I wish him well for the future

He may bounce back, but seems to be a salutary tale on how young English footballers can get ruined by the system. He desperately needs to be out of the limelight in a League One club to try and build himself back up - the problem is with the big price tag comes the expectation you're buying the finished article (and rightly so). Now, he's priced himself beyond the reach of a club who could bring him back from the spiral he seems to be in.

I think like most people he assumed it was a play on the name. There seems to be very little evidence for what you're thinking.

You would be more at home on the Manchester United forum though. Your forum name is manure.

I thought it was just a play on the name as well. For the vast majority of people these days it probably is. However it seems that it originated in a WBA song shortly after Munich, mocking the death of Duncan Edwards.

This is what I was referring to with regards to there not being any real evidence. Duncan Edwards was from Dudley so I don't know if he was a Wolves fan but it seems a bit tenuous.
