Sorry to intrude bud, but your username has got me puzzled and I'm trying to work out the meaning in English. Hope you don't mind helping out.

Does Stahlrost mean Steel grid? or stainless steel or Steel rust?

Thanks in advance. You will have helped a curious and nosey bugger out.

He might explain why he changed it from Stahlschwanz (sp) too.

Oh dear...........well (true story), it goes like this.

When I joined the BBS many years ago, I'd just returned from a skiing holiday in Austria. One of my mates on the holiday continually tried (and succeeded) to embarrass me by calling me "Stahlschwanz" (Google it) in a loud voice across crowded bars etc. It worked and it usually ended up with ladies staring at me while i went bright red.

When I first registered on here, I used the name Stahlschwanz. This lasted a few years, until my wife (who is German) saw it and had a fit. I actually agreed with her and I asked Admin to change it to mean "rusty steel", or Stahlrost. Since then I've realised that a steel cage or grid would be a better translation.

Not the most interesting story, but you did ask...

Always assumed it had something to do with you German connections but never knew what it meant.

It took me about 10 minutes to answer, by which time you'd spoilt it :D

Thanks for answering and it's more interesting than most monikers on here. Mine is pretty obvious.

I asked as I am learning German (not the best student at it BTW) and recognised Stahl.

I've just googled Stahlschwanz myself and it's meaning is not obvious. If you're struggling try separating it into Stahl and Schwanz, that should help. Or ask @SuperTyke or @Conan Troutman.

And if you need any help with German, just PM me. Schönen Abend noch!

Ha ha. I did Google it and I got the gist. I wasn't going to be too cheeky as you'd helped me out. Deffo think you should have kept the first name.

Edited. That last bit didn't come across correctly. I didn't mean you were a hard on, but that it was a more interesting username. See what can go wrong in translation :)

We had that story a few weeks ago. I'll get it out again in 3022 when I get my pension.

That story and all your others should be repeated each time we get to Wembley. I hope we get there that many times that you have to tell it so often that even i get bored of it
