Always heard people on about how crap he was but it was just before my time so I don't know anything about him. I got my first season ticket in 2003 so I just missed it. Why is Spackman looked at as one of the worst managers of recent time for us? Was it just crap football, or did he spend a load of money and still deliver crap football?
didn't ever look like scoring, we used to pass the ball sideways until we gave it away and they would score
may I ask you one question Gravy... how old are you... and believe me now this is not for derogatory reasons at all.. in fact far far from that ?
When he first got the job everyone was saying what a great manager he was , all his coaching badges etc ,eventually the penny dropped when they realised his coaching manual didn't have any attacking pages in it . Turgid fannying about in our own half until we lost it and let the other side score, chuffing useless
Never has a man deserved the nickname 'Spackers' as much as he. Signed a midfielder with a hole in his knee? Check. Another midfielder we pay a transfer fee for and then give him money to leave a few weeks later? Check.
Having walked out on dem blunts spackman became a tv pundit. It was quite obvious listening too him on tv he didn't have a clue. Yes he was a popular choice on here
He was the fans choice at the time. He was terrible, total dogs**t. As others have said the football was dire and we seldom looked like scoring nevermind winning.
It was common knowledge at the time that he used to communicate with the players via post it notes. That came from Darren Barnard if I remember rightly! John Dennis said in later years that he should be made to wear bells so that you could hear him and know where he was as a warning ! Awful Manager who cost the club a fortune with his insistence on staying in hotels pre match when we were at home! Dreadful in every respect with an arrogance and patronisation of the fans that was evident at his first meeting with the fans at Ardsley House when he smirkingly 'put down' a fan wearing a flat cap and waited for the laughs which never came. I was there and remember how uncomfortable it was. I absolutely hated him horrible man and manager.
Not too sure thet this board existed back in 2001 did it? He was a horrendus manager, played god-awful football and get rid of most of our decent players and replaced them with ***** such as Kevin Donovan. I truley believe that we would be a different club today if it was not for that man. I honestly think we could have seen a few more premier league seasons and a few less league 1 seasons if it wasn't for him. The worst manager in our history (or certainly the worst in my time of watching the reds).
He used to stand on the touch line with a white plastic cup in his hand and keep taking sips from it. Don't know what was in it, but the Football we played under him was woeful. Probably gradually anethetizing himself as the game wore on. Second worst ever manager we ever had. That prize without a shadow of any doubt for me, goes to Steve Parkin.
There was *a* board which existed under the auspices of a man who was later convicted multiple times of looking at images he shouldn't have been looking at. People left his forum once this news came to light, and then the predecessor(s) of this place were nigh.
