first half was same as the rest of the season slow and lacking any ideas going forward but then after half time when I believe the new manager decided to change it to more what I believe he is aiming for things improved massively.

He made it clear in his pre match press conference that he wasn't going to change much after a few days training but I'm Hoping after the first half showing we go to Birmingham with a similar playing style from the second half and give ourselves a chance of 3 points.

Thiam after all the abuse he got after the Fulham game came on and looked like the player we saw at home to reading and at Sunderland on New Year's Day so I'm sure he's given Jose something to think about when he's deciding on formations and tactics for Saturday.

I really hope after last night Jose plays with his own team and gives us a chance of stopping up!!!

First half he might have said, right i'm going to pick the same team that started your last match. Show me what you have got but if things aren't going well in the 2nd half we are going to go with what we have been working on this week in training.

Think we also need to take into account the fact that we were playing against a very poor team who were happy to sit back on a two goal lead. It's easy to attack when you have no other options. For example, look at how we played against Villa away in the second half. Still needs to be a lot better if we are to stand a chance of staying up.

After what I saw last night, I'd rather us just go down fighting that sticking with what we've had so far this season. Id be tempted to go for it and set up something like this

    ---------------Townsend--------------
    Yiadom ---Mills -- Lindsay--- Pinillos
    ----------------Williams-----------
    ------ Hammill -------- Mallan-----
    ---Thiam---- Moore---- Mcburnie----

We should really be looking for Hammill and Mallan to get balls into Moore and use him as a link up for Thiam and Mcburnie either side (not super wide though) - with Pinillos and Yiadom encouraged to get forward to provide extra width.

Williams and Yiadom or Pinillos would be encouraged to sit in for protection when either Yiadom or Pinillos are supporting.

My heart says that 2nd half was encouraging & gives us something to build on.

My head says we were only able to take over because Burton are as bad as us, were knackered from playing Saturday when we didn’t & that any decent championship side would’ve torn us apart on the counter attack if we tried them tactics from the start of a match

You could see the difference in tactics from us though here and the amount of times we got the ball in the opposition box also gives us a far better chance of goal scoring opportunities.... Look at Villa and QPR away when we fell behind and didn't do anything different tactically just changed like for like and perservered with the same system.

Burton passed the ball well in the first half yesterday so to say they were poor is very harsh on them.

As I reflect on it now that's more how I feel. Hard to judge it as the tactics or formation working as much as it was just Burton camped in their own box and us pumping balls in.

I think that's the point I'm making regarding Villa away - we didn't change tactics but still created a lot of opportunities, more so than last night. Which leads me to believe it's more to do with us having no choice but to attack, as opposed to anything else. I do agree that a change from 442 is needed, but I just don't think the second half performance is anything to get too optimistic about. And Burton were poor in my opinion, they had 5 shots and two on target - and they were both goals they are unlikely to score every week. I agree they started the first 15 mins well - but that's also partially because we gave them the necessary space to play and we were absolutely dreadful in possession. And in the second half Burton were very happy to sit back, although I can't say they looked a convincing defensive unit - I feel a team with a bit of quality (e.g. Villa or Fulham) would've created and scored a lot more than we did in that second half.

They're defense was appalling but its easy to organise yourself when the opposition are busy passing between their centre halves and holding midfielders at a snails pace before launching it, rinse and repeat.

The biggest concern for me in first half was the total lack of pressing from us.We made them look like Barcelona by allowing them to pass through us at will.We looked like a team of strangers first half and please no more 442 because it hasn’t worked once in my opinion this season.
